THU 9 JANUARY 2014

Present: Dr James Oliver Chairman GP Partner

Mr Neil Stevens Secretary Group Practice Manager

Miss Jennifer Nias PPG member

Mr Mike Bolton PPG member

Dr Simon Giles PPG Member

Apologies: Dr Diane Dyckhoff

1.  Welcome The Practice manager opened the meeting at the Constantine Surgery at 6.35 pm, and advised that two members of the PPG had resigned as members of the PPG, but there was an interest from 3 patients to attend the next meeting with a view to becoming PPG members.

2.  Previous meeting minutes The Practice Manager reviewed the minutes from the last meeting held at the Mullion Health Centre on Tue 12 November 2013, points of note are:-

·  The Physiotherapy service at The Constantine Surgery was now running with patients able to self-refer for back & neck conditions. Clinics were at the Constantine Surgery on a wednesday morning.

·  Appointments on line introduced on 18th November was helping to provide a better service for all patients registered at the practice and help reduce the Did Not Attend (DNA) numbers.

·  The repeat prescription service the practice was not yet enabled for EPS (Electronic Prescription Service).

3.  PPG membership NS advised the group on an email conversation he had with the practice manager at the Penryn Surgery, they had approx. 8 – 12 PPG members for a practice population of 18,300 some PPG members were also members of the Friends of Penryn Surgery. After discussion regarding “virtual groups” and a national PPG it was agreed that NS would instigate the following:-

·  Formal Invitation to FOC to send a representative to the next meeting.

·  Formal invitation to Carers group to send a representative to the next meeting.

·  PPG flyer to be included in all new patient packs

4.  Community services JO spoke on community services provision he was currently working with a steering group in the South Kerrier locality regarding implementing the Dutch model of community services where social care and nursing care is an integrated package. The Dutch system enables patients to remain more independent, the staff were more motivated, and worked in small teams of 12, and were responsible for the majority of their administration, their costs were extremely low.

There was the challenge of financial support for developing the service as it was agreed it is difficult to separate social & nursing care funding. JO was looking at piloting the service for at least a year with either European funding or charitable support from amongst others Saga & BT.

5.  Practice developments

·  Liquid Nitrogen The practice now had the equipment for the storage and provision of Liquid Nitrogen which was funded by the Friends of Constantine Surgery. This would allow better treatments for patients at all surgeries.

6.  AOB

·  JN asked if a community & commissioning update could be provided at the next meeting NS to arrange.

·  Next meeting would be held at The Mullion Health Centre on Thursday 20th March 2014 commencing at 6.30 pm

·  There being no further business the meeting closed at 8.45 pm.
