PURPOSE OF THE POST

  1. To assist the Day Centre Supervisor to provide a warm, safe, friendly environment for older people who have mild to moderate forms of dementia and who have been assessed as requiring day care.
  1. To work as a team with the supporting volunteers to provide an appropriate service.
  1. To help with the drop in service for older people and with other duties at the centre
  1. To actively uphold the dignity, wellbeing and choice of older people
  1. To be responsible for the safety of older people using the Day care Centre & whilst using the Mini-Bus Service

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To assist in providing appropriate care including personal care for service users.
  1. To assist at meal times.
  1. To be involved in providing a range of stimulating activities and outings appropriate to the needs of those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
  1. To promote the wellbeing and dignity of the service users at all times and to ensure their choice and independence.
  1. To ensure the safety of the service user while at the centre, on the minibus or out on trips.
  1. To complete paperwork and other administrative duties
  1. To carry out duties at the centre as agreed with the line manager
  1. To escort on the mini bus as required.
  1. By agreement, to cover colleagues work during their absences.
  1. To maintain the professional integrity of the charity and to represent its main interests at all times.
  1. Some Bank Holiday work will be required.
  1. To attend team meetings, training courses and the annual Staff Conference

Your Needs

  • You will keep under review your own developmental needs, keep yourself informed of current issues and be alert to the Age UK Notts training programmes and policies and attend all supervision meetings advised by your line manager. It is your responsibility along with your line manager to identify training and development needs and to inform your line manager of these.

  • You will exercise proper care in handling, operating and safeguarding any equipment or appliance provided, used or issued by Age UK Notts or provided by a third party for individual or collective use in the performance of your duties.

  • You will raise any concerns regarding safeguarding and report all allegations of abuse in line with the Age UK Notts Safeguarding policy.

Customer Care

  • You will promote and deliver services in a way which is sensitive and responsive to those receiving such services and be aware of and implement the Age UK Notts customer care policies and service level agreement requirements (if applicable).

Professional Integrity

  • You will maintain at all times the professional integrity of the Charity and represent its main interests in any dealings with other bodies, groups and individuals.

Quality Assurance

  • You will uphold and proactively contribute to the Age UK Notts Quality Assurance framework including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Other

  • participate in, and promote fundraising & income generation
  • promote all Age UK Notts services and trading products
  • You will attend staff meetings, the annual staff conference and other meetings as requested in order to keep up to date with information within the Charity
  • You will provide for your line manager, weekly diary sheets and any other reports or information as required.
  • You will carry out any other specified tasks that may be reasonably required by the relevant Manager, with the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature will be included in the job description.

Essential Requirements

  1. To have the ability to relate well and to have empathy with frail older people, particularly those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease and to have had experience of working with this client group.
  2. To have the ability to provide a positive service that upholds the wellbeing, dignity and independence of all older people at all times
  3. To have a good understanding of the needs of carers.
  4. To have good organisational and communication skills.
  5. To have the ability to help plan and implement a varied programme of activities and events appropriate to the client group.
  6. Proven ability to keep accurate records, including financial records.
  7. To have experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
  8. To have the ability to work on own initiative as well as team working and to report back to the line manager, as appropriate.
  9. To have some knowledge of the difficulties that older people face within the community.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of Equality and Diversity issues and a commitment to implement the Age UK Notts Equality and Diversity policy.

Desirable Requirements

  1. To have experience of working in a day care setting for older people.

Salary: £15,873 per annum, pro rate (AUNN Living wage)

Start Date:As soon as possible

Hours of Work:18 hours per week over 3 days(Thursday and Friday and one other day).

Occasional Bank Holiday cover as required.

Flexibility is required appropriate to the needs of the day Centre’s efficient running.Age UK Notts operates a scheme of flexible working hours.

Holidays:24 working days (pro-rated for part time hours). Employees are granted 8 Public Holidays.One additional days leave is added to the annual leave entitlement for each year of service up to a maximum of 8 additional days.

Mileage

Allowance: Currently 45p per mile.

Pension:The Charity will contribute 4% of basic salary into our NEST pension scheme after 3 months service with a phased employee minimum contribution rising to a maximum of 1.6% from 1st October 2018 (in line with auto-enrolment rules). However employees may contribute more than the minimum required employee contribution.
