Job Title: Nail Cutting Clinic Worker

ReportingTo:Nail Cutting Co-ordinator

Line Management:Day-to-day supervision of volunteers

Working Hours:Causal Contract of between 0 – 30 hours per week

Hourly Rate of Pay:£8.50 per hour plus holiday allowance, calculated on hours worked

Equating to approximately £9.27 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:To carry out the service of nail cutting and foot care to the over 50’s who need the service due to mobility and dexterity issues. Service provision is specific for individuals who may no longer be able to cut their own finger and toe nails which impinges on their independence and well being in terms of slips and trips which can occur if toe nails are over-long.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:Staff, volunteers and clients of Age UK Isle of Wight(Age UKIW), NHS and private organisationsrepresentatives,suppliers of goods and services; the general public.

KEY RESULTS AREAS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Action / End Result
1. / To runweekly Nail cutting clinics at various venues across the Island and to make home visits to clinics unable to travel. To cut finger and toe nails following training by the IOW NHS Podiatry Service. / Professional, high quality Nail cutting appointments are delivered which meet the requirements of the Service Contract.
Clients and potential clients are able to access the support they require.
2. / To work alongsidevolunteers in the delivery ofNail Cutting Clinics ensuring that clients are helped to access the clinic and given information to book appointments. / Quality standards are developed and maintained and volunteers are well supported to deliver services.
Volunteers gain knowledge about the work of Age UKIW and are effectively prepared to undertake their volunteering role.
3. / To assist in the housekeeping requirements of the clinics including:
  • Ensure that the premises are clean, safe and ready to receive clients at the start of the session and to clear and tidy away at the end of each session.
  • Ensure that all supplies and equipment are complete and well maintained and request additional supplies as needed.
/ Clients receive a quality service in a clean and safe environment.
4. / Maintain systems and processes to manage, monitor and evaluate the projects that comply with statutory requirements such as Data Protection. This should include both qualitative and quantitative data,e.g. attendance records, client notes and record of payments. / Records and systems are maintained to ensure the efficient running of the projects and show impact for funders. These should also be a measure of service user satisfaction.
5. / Ensure working practices comply with relevant statutory requirements and conform to moral and ethical standards of service delivery as agreed including age discrimination, confidentiality, safeguarding, disability discrimination, health and safety and equality and diversity. / Service standards are met.
6. / To ensure two way communication with group users and their families/carers and Age UKIW. / Service users are well informed and their views are heard.
7. / Work in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures. / Service standards are met.
8. / Attend training courses as required and maintain continuing professional development. / A record of continuing professional development.
9. / A flexible approach to working hours to provide cover and attend training which may include evenings and weekends. / The Nail Cutting Clinics are always fullystaffed and training is up to date.
10. / To carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.

Nail Cutting Clinic Worker- Person Specification

Specification / Essential / Desirable
Professional Qualifications, Education and Training: /
  • Good standard of education including English and Maths.
/ Further education in relevant subject.
NVQ 2 or above in relevant field.
Training in any or all of the following:
Chiropodist or related professions
Risk Assessment
Infection Control
First Aid
Manual Handling
Experience: /
  • Experience of care giving to older people.
/
  • Experience of delivering services to vulnerable clients and relevant legislation.
  • Working with volunteers.
  • Experience and understanding of older people with dementia.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge: /
  • Knowledge of the role of Age UKIW.
/
  • Understanding of the issues faced by older people with mobility issues and long term health conditions.

Specific Aptitudes and Abilities: /
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
