Goals and Objectives for the Course. (TEKS)

  • The student learns the employability skills of a successful employee to meet current industry standards and society.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safe practices in the working environment.
  • Identify and safely use tools and equipment up to and including power tools and metal working tools.
  • Demonstrate the use of measuring and marking devices
  • Understand the different metal joining technology and processes as it relates to agriculture mechanics and the fabrication industry.
  • Understand and demonstrate the planning and performing of construction techniques of metal projects.
  • The student performs plumbing skills
  • The student performs concrete construction skills.
  • The student performs carpentry skills.
  • Identify methods for drilling, shaping, and filing metal.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in fabricating ag trailers and other projects up to and including wiring, paint prep, wood decking, welding, and other means of metal work.
  • The student demonstrates principles of facilities design and fabrication related to agricultural structures.
  • The student explores the different types of power systems used in agricultural facilities.

  • Notebook sections are as follows: Title and syllabus pg.
  • 3 sections: Notes, Daily work, and Tests

Clothing Requirements:

Certain clothing/ protective wear is needed for this course. Lockers will be assigned to you, so you can store the items. All of the items can be found at can be found at Tractor Supply, Walmart, Academy, Cavender’s or your home!

YOU MUST PROVIDE THESE ITEMS:

  • Leather Shoes/ work boots. No open toe, tennis shoes, Vans, or Converse.
  • Long Sleeve Thick Cotton Shirts (Wrangler Work Shirt, or Dickies)
  • Denim Jeans
  • Slip joint pliers (channel locks or other brand)
  • Safety Glasses*
  • Arc Welding Gloves*
  • Welding Hood*

Items marked with an (*) asterisk will be provided to the students, but can be purchased and is a good investment.

Classroom Expectations and Guidelines:

  • Be on time, and ready to work
  • No Horse playing will be tolerated.
  • Respect yourself, others and property.
  • Bring necessary classroom supplies to class including proper Ag Lab attire.

Consequences (not in any specific order):

  • Verbal/ Non Verbal Warning
  • Grade Deduction
  • Parent Phone Call
  • Principal Referral

LAB FEE: $25- Payable to KHS, DUE by September 14th.

Grading System:

ALL ONE CATEGORY. GRADES CAN COUNT as much as 2 or 3 TIMES in some cases (like major grades)

  • Quiz
  • Daily/ Ag Mech LabParticipation

**Lab grade basis: 1 warning 10 pt deduction, 2nd warning 20 pt deduction, etc.

Participation grades will include class and shop activities and are a major part of the course.

Your grade will be a reflection of the participation you give in class and Ag Mech Lab.
