After Chris has been at the bar with Amber Again - Act 2 Scene 4
In the bar Chris is seated with a beer. Amber enters.
AMBER
Is this seat taken?
CHRIS
Hi, uh no, no.
AMBER
Your friends not here tonight?
CHRIS
They were.
AMBER
You shouldn’t drink on your own.
(He looks at her).
AMBER
Sorry I’m talking to you as if I’m your mom.
CHRIS
You’re good and your right I shouldn’t drink on my own it leads to a bad habit. But I needed some head space.
AMBER
Had a tough day at the office?
CHRIS
Well I work for this Mexican guy who owns eBay and he’s a royal shit, (they both laugh). But um oddly enough that’s not the reason why I need some headspace.
AMBER
I’m all ears.
CHRIS

AMBER
Try me.
CHRIS
It’s my girlfriend Dorothy. It’s funny I never had a pet name for her like I’d call her babe a lot or dude sometimes but never called her Dotty or Dolly. I just assumed she’d hate that.
AMBER
This girl sounds kinda cold.
CHRIS
No she… we have good times just lately, I don’t know something’s missing, also I’m finding things out about her that I didn’t know before. It’s like she’s a different person. Jeez I’m so sorry I’m pouring my heart out to a beautiful lady I barely know.
AMBER
Pour away.
(Chris takes a long gulp of his beer).
CHRIS
Just a sob story.
AMBER
Oh believe me I have mine.
CHRIS
What makes you sad, shit I’m sorry that came out the wrong way.
AMBER
No your fine, I was married. At the time my husband was very good to me but very controlling …and abusive. He hit me around…a lot.
CHRIS
Dick.
AMBER
One night he was heavily drunk and he was about to kick me and my dog attacked him. I got Casey off him, that’s my dog. I took her and ran, called my lawyer and I’m still trying to divorce the bastard. That fucker’s burning a hole in my pocket but I’m getting rid of him. That’s the main thing.
CHRIS
Right. Jesus and you’ve a good attorney?
AMBER
I think so my aunt recommended him. He seems to know what he’s talking about, no bullshit. God now I’m going on about myself.
CHRIS
I hope he helps you out.
AMBER
Thank you, I hope so too. You having another beer?
CHRIS
Nah I’m broke and I’m not even that close to pay day.
AMBER
It’s on me.
(He hesitates).
CHRIS
You sure? Cool.
AMBER
Hey Scott can I get two IPA’s please.
SCOTT (off stage)
Two IPA’s? You got the cash bro?
(Scott laughs)
AMBER
Make that four!
CHRIS
You sure.
(Amber nods).
CHRIS
Make that four IPA’s Scott. So Amber, tell me more about your story Amber.
