WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WITH YOUR TOPIC:
- If you do a food presentation, you must bring in some for classmates to sample. For all others, you are better off bringing in something physical to show, but you must at least play music, show pictures of clothing, art, etc.
- PowerPoint requirements (5-7 min. presentation)
o Speak at a writer’s pace, not a speaker’s pace (be considerate of your audience’s needs)
o Clear and descriptive title (example: Traditional clothing of the Andes)
o Every slide should have Visual and written explanations of your piece of Latin culture. Try to never put more than 40 words on a slide, and use as large a font as you can. NOTE: If you are doing music you must bring in at least Audio example to explain and analyze.
o 1 slide with a Map of your region of Latin America (Pampas, Andes, etc.) including:
§ Countries in your region
§ At least 1 geographical feature that affects culture in your region
§ At least 1 natural resources that affects culture of the region
§ See me if a “regional map” is a problem.
o Clearly demonstrate for each physical & visual example:
§ What is it (name, genre, etc.)?
§ What cultural significance/value does it hold for the people of that country?
§ What materials/ingredients are used and why (geographical and/or cultural reasons)?
§ How/why is it an example of something unique to that country?
§ How/why is the element of culture you chose converging with other cultures these days?
IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT YOUR PowerPoint:
1) At LEAST 1 day before it’s due, you must either:
a. save the PPT to my folder within the Common Folder (R:Common/Teachers/Hirsch)
b. e-mail it to me as an attachment to
2) IF YOU USE A MAC: anticipate compatibility issues and discuss with me well ahead of time (you must save the file as a PowerPoint file with a name that has no space, NOT A KEYNOTE!). If you can’t save it as a PowerPoint, save it as a PDF file.
