AFAC16 Youth Scholarship – Protocol

Eligibility – Whocan be nominated?

A staff member or volunteer, aged between 18-30 years, who has significantly contributed to an AFAC member agency and would benefit from the professional development opportunities offered at AFAC16.

Value of the award

The scholarship recipients will be sponsored by AFAC to the AFAC16 Conference. This is inclusive of return airfares to the recipients’ capital city, conference registration fee and accommodation.

Conditions of Entry

The agency of the nominee must be willing to allow members of the selection panel to have contact with all person(s) who have nominated and seconded the nomination, or who are in leadership positions within the agency.

The nomination forms should be endorsed by the CEO/Commissioner/Chief Officer/Fire Manager of the AFAC member agency.

Only one nomination is permitted from each member agency in any given year.

A person nominated in the previous year may be re-nominated in subsequent years.

Selection Criteria

The nominees must be acknowledged by their organisation as demonstrating a significant commitment their agency in the areas of:

  • youth engagement;
  • contribution to agency activities; or
  • career development in fire and emergency services.

Nominations must be accompanied by a description of:

  • relevant achievements;
  • how achievements/commitment has benefitedthe nominee’s agency; and
  • how this opportunity would assist the nominee progress career/personal development in fire and emergency services.

The nominating officer also has the opportunity to provide supporting comments.

To ensure the award is shared among the members of AFAC, the award can only be received by an agency for a maximum of two consecutive years.

Nomination process

Nominations should be endorsed by the agency’s CEO/Commissioner/Chief Officer/Fire Manager and forwarded to Zoe Kenyon in the AFAC office by Friday22ndJuly 2016.The attached nomination form is to be used (please email you would like an electronic version of the form).

Selection Panel

The successful candidate will be selected by AFAC CEO Office, and no further correspondence will be entered into.
