FACULTY OF ENGINEERING & IT

Introduction

The British University in Dubai (BUiD) is a post-graduate research-led University based in Dubai that draws on top ranking British teaching and research to create a beacon for knowledge-led innovation in the Gulf region. BUiD is the result of an exciting vision shared by United Arab Emirate (UAE) leaders, industry, educators and British interests in the area including the British Council.

BUID was established as a not for profit entity by Ruler’s Decree in May 2003 and has over 1000 postgraduate students on 15 post-graduate and five doctoral programmes all of which are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. BUiD has a vibrant and developing academic research environment organised into three Faculties: Engineering & Information Technology, Business & Law and Education.

As BUiD progresses in its second decade of influencing education and research in the UAE, it has crossed yet another milestone of receiving a formal “Concordat” statement signed by our key alliance associates namely University of Manchester, Cardiff University, University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow to acknowledge their combined and individual support for BUiD’s strategic development as a research-based local university. This provides a comprehensive framework for the strategic direction and good governance of BUiD. This is intended to provide the strategic scaffolding for the growth and development of BUiD as the local hub for doctoral training, founded upon the University’s 47 doctoral alumni and 329 active doctoral students.

The Engineering Management Programme

The Masters Engineering Management Programme in provides advanced analytical knowhow and skills in mathematical and statistical tools and techniques that are applicable to a wide range of engineering disciplines and applications.

It is becoming more important for engineers to gain additional managerial skills in order to be able to progress their career and get promoted in their work. As time progresses, an engineer has to deal with a wider range of business-related activities in addition to the technical aspects of their job. This often includes preparing strategy, managing people and ability to make basic finance and accounting decisions. Most engineers need further knowledge in these areas to help them in their career progression within their organizations and profession.

Thus at the core of this programme are the major managerial knowledge and skills engineers need to support them in their management tasks which are closely related to any engineering role. This includes engineering management & corporate strategy, accounting & financing and human resource management.
