Post Title: Community Development Worker

£22,221-£23,708 per annum
Post Hours: 35 hours – some flexible working will be involved. Permanent contract.
Special Conditions Of Service:
Office phone for business use will be provided.
Purpose And Objectives Of The Post:
To devise and deliver a range of community development initiatives to increase and strengthen the capacity of the volunteers and the local community. To oversee the New Springs Project Group, providing appropriate support and advice.
Supervision Received From:
Estate Director, Springs TMC. / Supervision Given To:
No staff but will be responsible for managing the volunteers
Duties And Responsibilities:
  1. Devise, deliver and co-ordinate a range of community development initiatives working in partnership with local residents and agencies.
  2. Ability to publicise and promote community development programmes, encouraging local residents to participate in the regeneration process.
  3. An understanding of the wider economic and social factors which impact upon residents of disadvantaged, multi-cultural, urban neighbourhoods and of current regeneration policies.
  4. Ability to develop innovative solutions to problems and demonstrate innovative approaches to work with the local community.
  5. To design and deliver innovative consultation exercises, to engage with the local community.
  6. Manage local volunteers, encouraging personal development and training. Ensure the any relevant checks on their suitability to work in the local community and with children are up-to-date.
  7. Work in a pro-active way that empowers and develops the capacity of the community to identify and resolve local issues.
  8. To meet all monitoring and financial requirements, maintaining accurate records, providing verbal and written reports as required.
  9. Ability to work over various sites including the Springs Housing Office and the Sure Start Centre.
  10. To undertake research into potential external funding bodies relating to community, environmental and economic regeneration and to maintain a library of application forms and information packs.
  11. Ability to prepare a range of funding bids and successfully manage projects accordingly.
  12. Ability to devise effective methods to monitor and evaluate funded projects, adhering to individual funding bodies criteria.
  13. To professionally manage a varied and challenging workload that will include face-to-face, group and office work as well as meeting all relevant partners.
  14. Ability to work out of office and occasional weekends.
  15. To adhere to Springs TMC policies including smoking, equal opportunities and health and safety.
  16. Car user is desirable.
  17. To undertake any other reasonable duties as instructed by the Director.
