REQUIREMENT / DESCRIPTION / COMPLETION DATE
Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) / Candidate must pass GWAR with the minimal acceptable combined score from all of the four areas of 10 points. Scores of 1 or lower in any section is not permissible. Those who do not pass the GWAR must meet with a consultant in the University Writing Center to discuss deficiencies identified by the exam and receive recommendations of activities to correct these deficiencies.
Thesis/Project Proposal / Candidate must complete Integrative Learning Experience with a thesis or capstone project and obtain topic approval by the Faculty Chair.
Committee Members / Work with Faculty Chair to identify committee members for the thesis or capstone project.
Institutional Review Board (IRB) / If necessary, obtain University IRB approval to ensure that human subjects are treated ethically and that their rights and welfare are adequately protected. Follow IRB Guidelines found at
Advancement to Candidacy Form / Upon completion of all core MPH courses and above requisites, complete and submit the Advancement to Candidacy form to CEHHS Student Services in University Hall 221. Once the Advancement to Candidacy has been processed, the correlating milestone will be added to the Academic Requirements Report (ARR) and confirmation email will be sent.
Apply for Graduation / Apply for graduation at the beginning of the anticipated completion semester. To apply for graduation, log into the Student Services Center through Locate the Apply for Graduation field in the drop-down tab and follow the prompts for the appropriate graduation term. The window and deadline for candidates to apply to graduate can be found at Candidates that do not submit their application by the stated deadlines risk the postponement of their degree conferral.
Present Thesis/Project / Complete a presentation of work to a committee of faculty members that is also open to the school, stakeholders (where applicable), and the public.
E-thesis, Project and Dissertation (ETD) Submission / Electronically submit completed thesis or capstone project to the University Library repository (ScholarWorks). This includes the completing the Departmental Signature Page and Certification as well as paying the fee and uploading the final document to ScholarWorks. Guidelines found at:
