Advanced Placement Course

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

INTENT TO PARTICIPATE in the IB Diploma Program

INITIAL RECOMMENDATION FORM

SY 2017-2018

International Baccalaureate classes have content that is both rigorous and challenging. These courses are taught at the college level and must meet certain criteria as outlined by the International Baccalaureate Organization (www.ibo.org). As a result, the recommendation of a subject area teacher is requested for students to enroll in this program and these classes.

Please read carefully the information on the reverse side of this page. This completed form with all signatures, must be returned to Mr. Denney in office 1120 or room 1148 by

Friday, March 3rd, 2017 by 4:00 p.m.

ALL IB COURSES REQUIRE A TEACHER RECOMMENDATION SIGNATURE

OR a parent waiver if you wish to take a course without a teacher recommendation; if your waiver is denied, you must contact Ms. C MacAllaster directly with questions;

You may download the waiver form off of the school’s main website.

·  Before enrolling in the IB program, a student should carefully plan his/her academic and extracurricular schedule for the following year to accommodate the demands of IB courses.

·  Frequently there is a summer assignment, often reading, that is required and assessed at some point during the first few weeks of school.

·  Once admitted to an IB course, a student is expected to remain in the class for the duration of the year.

·  Payment for exams is required prior to the exam order deadline of November 15, 2017. There are no refunds of exam fees for any reason at any time after the exam order has been sent.

·  Many colleges and universities accept IB exam grades (usually 4 or higher) for college credit and/or placement. The standards are not uniform among institutions.

·  IB courses are offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment in the class.

All requested information must be completed or this form will not be accepted. RETURN THIS COMPLETED FORM TO MR. DENNEY IN class 1148 or his OFFICE 1120 in East Hall
