MSW Program Disclosures

The Master of Social Work program at Texas State University has implemented a single stream curriculum called Advanced Practice Leadership (APL). Within our single stream focus area, APL, we have two routes to obtaining your degree. There is the Foundation Regular cohort if you do not have a Bachelor in Social Work degree and the Advanced Standing cohort if you do have a BSW degree earned within the last 10 years.

The MSW APL program requires all students to complete an internship. The practicum hours are dependent on the foundation or advanced program requirements. All students are required to complete their practicum hours in order to satisfy the degree requirements.

· Foundation Regular internship requires students to complete a structured 360-hour practicum (year 1) and a 540-hour practicum (year 2) in an agency in partnership with the university.

· Advanced standing internship requires students to complete a structured, 540-hour practicum in an agency in partnership with the university.

Although students have a myriad of agency settings in which to work, almost all require the student to be present during normal daytime business hours. If you are accepted to the MSW APL program do you agree to adjust your current schedule to accommodate your field practicum hours?

Please explain how you plan to complete the hours:

Online students, please review the state authorization for disclosure or correspondent education.

The School of Social Work reserves the right to evaluate applicants based on requirements of the program and consideration of criteria necessary for the profession of social work. These criteria include, but are not limited to, evidence of: clear and concise writing, critical thinking skills, experience (paid or unpaid) working with oppressed populations, knowledge of social work values and ethics and an overall fit for the program. Additionally, applicants must fully answer each bullet point on the Personal Statement portion in order to receive full points. Each application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee and we do not provide individual feedback.

Note: Revealing difficulties in volunteer or work experience or criminal charges or convictions does not automatically disqualify a student from being accepted to the MSW program, though criminal charges may limit an individual’s field placement opportunities or affect an individual's ability to be licensed following graduation. However, failure to disclose information regarding such difficulties is a violation of the Social Work Code of Ethics and may be grounds for termination from the School of Social Work.

Applicants and admitted students also have an obligation to report to the MSW Coordinator any changes to your criminal history or status within one week of the change.
