Course Description:

Semester 1:This is Advanced Math, and is designed in part to review prerequisite skills for College Algebra semester 2. We will also research math courses necessary for academic programs in which the students are interested. We will use online resources and textbooks I have in my classroom to introduce students to those topics.

Semester 2: This is a standard College Algebra course designed for students that have successfully completed Algebra I and Algebra II in high school. It should satisfy the general education requirement for College Algebra and will transfer to Kansas Regents institutions. Topics covered are: polynomials, rational expressions and radicals, equations and inequalities, absolute value, functions and graphs, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, matrices, and systems of equations and inequalities. Students will be expected to have access to and use a graphing calculator. TI-82, 83, or 84 is recommended. Can be taken for college credit through Neosho County Community College. You do not have to take Advanced Math to enroll in College Algebra. To take College Algebra for NCCC credit, must attain minimum acceptance score on ASSETT if they did not score 22 on ACT math. The textbook for second semester is “College Algebra” by Stewart, Redlin, and Watson.
