ADUMASA NEWS Mid Winter 2011 Update

Fund-raising

Following a difficult summer of fund-raising, the run up to Christmas proved better than expected, despite the snow!!! Many thanks to all who helped and supported us during this time. Elizabethan Markets start again in May, so come along and see our lovely crafts, and purchase a gift for you or a loved one!! We also hope to have a Spring Fayre in Exeter in April... and we'll let you know of the Summer events once they become finalised.

Visits to Ghana

A six week visit to Adumasa by Kym, a Canadian teacher, proved very beneficial both to her, and the project as she helped out in the schools and has been able to generate further support for the charity in Canada. Pam Latimer and Alice Knight are to visit the projects in mid to late March. Anyone who wishes to send a letter, or very small gift to their sponsored child, or to give donations for books, stationary or anything else, please let Pam have it by March 7th at the latest. More news and photos once we are back!

Current Projects

A further donation from a group of Austrian churches has meant that the classroom block, library and kitchen in Chiransa can now all be completed. In Bedaase work is ongoing to finish the new kitchen and to move the nursery classrooms closer to the main school.

In Adumasa our main focus is on the Senior High School (SHS), where at the moment the charity has to pay the teachers until numbers reach a level where the education authority will take over paying staff wages; since we teach a broad range of subjects this is a quite a strain on our resources. Please pray that enrolement in the Senior High School will increase significantly in the coming year. A recent bequest to the charity has enabled us to start building a girls dormitory at the SHS, so that the clasroom the girls are currently occupying can be freed up in time for the next academic year.
