LEAGUE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

JUNE 14- 16, 2013

CONGRATULATIONS! The USTA/Maryland District has been notified that you are the captain of the winning team from your local area in the Adult 18 & over Mixed Doubles League. As such, you are invited to participate in the USTA/Maryland District’s Adult 18 & Over Mixed Doubles League District Championships. YOU MUST BRING A FULL TEAM TO THIS CHAMPIONSHIP, or request a waiver from the District Office 10 days prior to attending.

Location

We have secured courts at Olney Manor Park. See our web site for directions to this facility and court layout. Limited restroom facilities are available at the tournament site. There will be no food/beverages available on site. There are no practice courts available at the site, so you will need to scout out the area to see where you might find practice courts.

Captains’ Meeting & Registration

The Wednesday, June 12, 2013 meeting will be a virtual on-line meeting starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. Since tournament rules and procedures will be discussed at the Wednesday evening virtual on-line captain’s meeting attendance is mandatory. If the captain cannot attend, another team member must be present. If you cannot attend, please have a team representative present on the call.

To register:

Roll call will be taken by NTRP level at the beginning of the on-line meeting. Your team must be represented.

At the tournament site there will be two tournament desks:

1 – registration desk where captains receive envelopes with match line-up scorecards. Each eligible player (played 2 matches) on your team roster will receive local league award (tennis towels).

2 – tournament desk where captains submit completed match line-up scorecards.

Matches

The Schedule will be placed on our web site (www.maryland.usta.com) as soon as possible. Completed Team lineups must be submitted to the tournament desk 1/2 hour before the scheduled match play. Failure to do so will result in a $50.00 cash fine. Lineup forms are available from this web site. Additional forms will be available at the tournament site. All team members must be ready to play 1/2 hour before the scheduled match time. If courts are available, we have the right to call a match to begin play 1/2 prior to the scheduled time assuming courts are available to do so. Failure to be available when a match is called (assuming courts are available), late penalties will apply. The tournament desk clock will determine the official time. Matches are played on a follow-by basis. Match times are approximate after the first round.

Match Format

¨ Play will consist of, #1 Doubles, #2 Doubles & #3 Doubles.

¨ If you don't have a full line-up for any reason, you must request a waiver. Additionally you must forfeit your #3 Doubles and notify the tournament desk. The tournament desk will file a grievance against your team for violation of the regulations.

¨ There will be a 5-minute warm-up.

¨ Match play will be 2 sets with regular scoring. If any set reaches six all, a tie-break will be

Played (first team to score 7 points, and must be up by 2 points). If sets are split, the

match will be decided by playing a match tie-break, (first team to reach 10 points, must be

up by 2 points). The Coman tie-break will be used throughout the tournament.

¨ The 3rd set tie-break will count as a 1-0 victory.

¨ Please make changeovers and breaks as brief as possible.

¨ If needed, the USTA tie-break rules will be used to determine the champions.

Rain Plan

In the event of rain, report to the Tournament Desk, with the balls, for instructions on how to proceed. Write down the score and who was serving, and bring that information with you to the Tournament Desk. The tournament staff will have the option of revising the schedule and the tournament format, if necessary, in the event of inclement weather. See our web site for rain procedures.

Trainer

There will be a trainer (Joy Pilpel) on-site at the tournament to assist with athletic injuries.

Team photos will be taken throughout the weekend as well as candid shots by professional photographer William Bernard Harris.

Awards

Champions - first place teams will receive USTA awards. Further, teams will have

their pictures taken, which will be posted on the USTA/Maryland home page, facebook and twitter.

Website

The USTA League Maryland home page will be updated with photos and scores daily. Be sure your local newspaper sports editor, friends and family have the address so they can check the results.
