ADOPT-A-STREET

PROGRAM PROCEDURES

1. Interested groups should designate a liaison person for contact with Keep Tallahassee-Leon County Beautiful (KTLCB). The liaison should contact KTLCB to arrange adoption:

Diana Hanson

P. O. Box 191

Tallahassee, Florida 32302

850-545-6507

E-Mail:

2. Streets eligible for adoption include City maintained streets, which are classified as collector, or arterial streets. Local traffic or residential streets may eligible for adoption; contact KTLCB to request a determination.

3. When an area has been identified and agreed on, an agreement will be executed between the group and KTLCB. Two copies of the agreement will be signed by a person authorized by the group, and returned to KTLCB. The agreement will then be executed by KTLCB and a copy returned to the group liaison.

4. Following execution of the agreement, KTLCB will submit a request to the City for the installation of signs to identify the adopted street, the program, and the group involved.

5. The sponsoring group will clean up the street right-of-way at least six times per year.

6. A Litter Removal Report Form must be provided for each collection date, and must be filled out and returned to KTLCB after each event (on-line reporting is an option). If the sponsor fails to submit a litter removal report for six consecutive months, the street will be considered abandoned and the sponsor’s sign will be removed.

7. If more than five bags of trash are collected, the City will pick up the trash bags following the clean-up date. The bags containing litter should be placed by the program identification sign. If less trash is collected, the group is requested to dispose of the trash properly in residential containers. Groups are free to separate recyclable items and dispose of them properly in residential containers.

8. A street is adopted for a period of one year for student organizations and for two years for business and professional organizations. Once expired, agreements can be renewed upon written request.
