Museum Operating Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 10am-5pm
Hours Available for School Group Tours: Thursday & Friday 9am-3pm
Hours Available for Group Tours: Tuesday-Saturday 9am-3pm
v Special tour days/times are available for small school group tours. Contact the museum for details.
v All group tours for the museum must be made at least 4 weeks in advance of tour date.
v School tours are limited to one grade level to provide suitable activities. Exceptions can be made for smaller school groups or homeschool groups.
v The museum can only accommodate up to 60 students at a time. If your group is larger than 60 students, they will need to be divided and visit other museums or attractions in Rome, which we can help schedule, or they can go to Ridge Ferry Park for lunch/playtime while we have part of the group.
v If you book a field trip during cold weather, please understand that some of your activities may be outside during the day, so encourage your students to dress accordingly.
v The museum has public restrooms on the property, but they do not have heat. There are also small restrooms inside the museum buildings, but we encourage school groups to use the public restrooms when possible.
v You may want to include a cooler of bottled water or juice for your students on the bus—we do not sell beverages at the museum and do not have a water fountain.
v Field trips for students at the Major Ridge Home are structured to meetGeorgia State Standards and are age appropriate. Each program is approximately 45 to 75 minutes in length.
v Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home is closed on Mondays and many holidays. Contact the museum if you have questions.
v Parking: On-site parking is available adjacent to the museum. Contact the museum for details.
v A small picnic area is available for brown bag lunches. See tour policy for additional information.
v Teachers will be sent an itinerary for field trips showing a schedule of activities for the day. If your group is late arriving at the museum, please know that this itinerary is subject to change and some activities might not be available for your group. When possible, please contact the museum to let staff know you will be arriving late.
