Role Overview:
CSIRO Finance’s objective is to provide reliable, accurate, timely, customer-focused information and relevant value-adding, strategic insight to support and enable CSIRO’s financial sustainability through the effective use of resources.
The CorporateFinance Officer - Internal Budgetingwill provide day-to-day financial accounting advice and expertise with a strong focus on providing Finance support to CSIRO. The Corporate Finance Officer – Internal Budgeting will achieve significant financial accounting outcomes and contribute to the delivery of accurate, quality financial accounting compliance. The role will input to the delivery of value-add financial management and analytical advice and assist management with the delivery of their CSIRO business objectives.
Duties and Key Result Areas:
  • Assist the Finance Manager – Budgeting and Government Reporting with the development and delivery of the internal budget including:
  • use of off-system budget modelling tools, and data entry into SAP (budget module and main G/L); and
  • undertaking budget-actual performance monitoring and variance analysis.
  • Accurately and efficiently undertake financial accounting tasks in compliance with policy, standards and finance practices.
  • Understand the financial data contained in reports to identify errors and anomalies.
  • Data gathering, data entry, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Analyse data, identify variances and trends and draw conclusions for reporting (written) or discussion with finance managers and/or other stakeholders including ad-hoc, monthly, year to date and/or prior year budget and actual financial figures.
  • Provide recommendations that are insightful and pragmatic, addressing issues and/or providing improvements for current and future needs of the business.
  • Participate in rotation of positions (at level) to deliver on business objectives, support development and build the groups sustainability. This may require deployment to major projects, teams within Corporate Finance or other positions across In-business Finance.
  • Pro-actively undertake and complete work with accuracy and timeliness including prioritisation of own tasks contributing to Finance team service delivery.
  • Responsible for contribution to ongoing knowledge sharing across the Finance team.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
  • Work proactively as part of an often regionally dispersed team, to carry out administrative tasks and provide personal assistance, under the general direction of senior administrative staff.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within your team, the business unit and across CSIRO, to reach objectives.

Selection Criteria:

Pre-Requisites:
  1. Education/Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance, or progress towards tertiary qualifications, or relevant work experience in a financial environment.
  2. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication demonstrated by the ability to clearly convey financial information, select the most appropriate method of communication, and establish effective interpersonal relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Behaviours: A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
  4. Problem Solving: Proven ability to investigate routine problems by identifying and considering the implications of a range of available alternative solutions.
  5. Teamwork: Demonstrated experience and commitment working effectively in a team, proactively seeking and considering ideas of others whilst positively contributing to the team environment to achieve objectives and deliverables.
Essential Criteria:
  1. Demonstrated experience in developing internal budgets or management accounting including the preparation of reports and information for key stakeholders.
  2. Ability to analyse data, identify variances and provide relevant commentary to key stakeholders based on observed facts and data, findings and conclusions, including suggestions for innovation and improvement.
  3. Understanding of the Government budget processes.
  4. Demonstrated experience being proactive and using problem solving skills to resolve accounting issues in an accurate and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Desirable Criteria:
  1. Experience or understanding of Finance policies and processes and requirements for budgeting and reporting.
  2. Proficiency in using SAP.
