Role Purpose
The Delegated Authority Technicianis a key role with the Underwriting Governance team in executing the delegated authority (DA) framework, enabling our business strategy and maintaining required regulatory standards.
The Delegated Authority Technician’s primary responsibility is to support the Underwriting Control Manager inexecuting the DA Framework, planning, conducting and reporting on Coverholder / Brokers with Restricted Authority audits. This is all in an environment of meeting the Lloyd’s compliance / due diligence requirements.
The role is market visible, involving Coverholder / Brokers with Restricted Authority contact when communicating our requirements. There is also regular contact with our regulators (specifically Lloyd’s) and other external stakeholders.
Success in the role requires collaboration with other business functions, Lloyd’s and our Coverholders / Brokers with Restricted Authority to ensure that we maintain robust control of all our delegated arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
The key priorities for the holder of this role are:
  • Administer Coverholder arrangements in accordance with the ERS Delegated Authority Strategy Framework and Lloyd’s Code of Practise including the application process, annual compliance, structured renewal discussions, performance monitoring, issuance and maintenance of binding authority documentation using Lloyd’s systems (Atlas and BAR) as required.
  • Administer Brokers with Restricted Authority arrangements in accordance with the ERS Delegated Authority Strategy & Framework including the application process, annual compliance, structured renewal discussions, performance monitoring, issuance and maintenance of documentation.
  • Support planning and delivery of the Coverholder/ Brokers with Restricted Authority audit programme, aligned to the needs of the business and Lloyd’s in accordance with the ERS audit strategy and scope.
  • Provide detailed reporting of Coverholder audit findings including root causes, agreed remedial actions and tracking resolution.
  • To actively manage and coordinate the Coverholder application process between all parties including Lloyd’s.
  • Provide support in administering the underwriting authority framework (Brokers & Underwriters personal authority).
  • Ensure familiarity with broker trading processes and practices therefore ensuring that they meet the conditions of delegated authority agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding the risk environment in which we operate. Monitoring key risks, which threaten the success and sustainability of our business.
  • Ensuring that at all times, we operate in such a way which is consistent with all legal and regulatory provisions.
  • Act as a second line of defence in the activity of Underwriters and Brokers in giving assurance to the business and highlighting where risk exposure arises and coordinating to conclusion.
Skills & Experience
We require our role holders to demonstrate strong capabilities and to possess the following skills, attributes and knowledge:
  • Detailed knowledge of the Lloyd’s Code of Practice for Delegated Underwriting, Lloyd’s DA and Conduct Risk Minimum standards and the systemsemployed by Lloyd’s to manage Coverholder business.
  • Detailed knowledge of the legal, regulatory and compliance provisions that apply to the UK motor insurance market.
  • Detailed knowledge of ERS’ products, methods of trading and the operating models employed by our brokers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which will allow you to build and maintain value adding relationships.
  • Understanding of the principles relating to risk management.
