Mr. Kurwin White is currently an Adjunct Instructor at Southeast Arkansas College (SEARK) in the Public Safety and Emergency Administration and Management (EMAN) Department. He is also currently employed as a High School Criminal Justice Instructor and Crisis Management Coordinator in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, by the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative (ARESC). Mr.White has a widespread work history in the fields of Criminal Justice (CJ) and Emergency Management (EM). He started his CJ career with the Arkansas Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer I in 1989, and his EM career started with L-3 Communications in Fairfax, Virginia, as a Law Enforcement analyst from 2002–2009.

SEARK’s EMAN program prepares students for work in the EM field through the use of classroom discussion, text material, peer review periodicals, and various levels of participation in disaster planning. The planning is inclusive of, but not limited to, tabletop and full-scale exercises. The scope of the EMAN program is to groom students for work in both the public and private sectors of emergency and disaster preparedness. Students acquire a working knowledge of the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System. Scholars will also be involved with disaster prevention, planning, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery disciplines.

Mr. White holds a B.A. in criminal justice from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (1995) and a master’s degree in criminal justice education from The University of Cincinnati. He is currently pursing a Ph.D. in public safety/emergency management at Capella University. As a result of completing numerous online courses through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, attending the Emergency Management Institute (EMI), and achieving a Ph.D. in emergency management, he will be able to academically contribute to the field of EM.

Mr. White is excited about attending EMI and looks forward to meeting and learning from those who actively and academically contribute to the EM field.
