Facsimile Maps

Facsimiles of old maps of Cambridgeshire can be acquired from the following sources:

Has a number of facsimile maps on sale. Of the maps on display in this exhibition, they have available: a slightly later edition of Bowen’s map of Cambridgeshire (1753); a map by J Blaeu which is very similar to the Hondius map of the Fens (1632).

Also sells a number of facsimiles - maps of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, and views. Of the maps on display in this exhibition they have available copies of: Saxton’s map (1576); Kip’s 1607 map; Ogilby’s strip map (1675).

Cambridge 1574-1904. A portfolio of 12 facsimile maps illustrating the changing plan of Cambridgeshire from the 16th to the early 20th century. Published by the Cambridgeshire Records Society. Buying Modern Maps

Most of the bookshops in Cambridge (as in other towns) stock a variety of maps including Ordnance Survey small scale maps (1:25,000 and 1:50,000 and less detailed scales) as well as maps from other publishers.

Detailed Ordnance Survey maps (at scales of 1:10,000, 1:2,500 and 1:1,250, etc.) can only be bought from appointed Ordnance Survey Agents. A full list of these is available on the Ordnance Survey web site In Cambridge you need to contact:
