The Acceptance Letter

Thank you for your interest in volunteering in Japan with NICE.

We are looking forward to meeting you in our project.

You must have the following documents, please read carefully before your leaving.

< The Conditions of Participation >

1) Insurance

We prepare "Volunteer Insurance" for you, however it only covers limited casesDURING the

workcamp in Japan and compensate for quite a small amount of money as you can see from the list below. Therefore, you must prepare travel insurance on your own prior to departure. It is advisable to rely on your own travel insurance rather than the Volunteer Insurance whose procedure is complicated and lengthy. We are unable to compensate for additional moneybeyond this insurance!! We can NOT prepare any insurance for the workcamps outside Japan.

For injury * Death: (Up to) 4,000,000 yen
* Permanent disablement: 4,000,000 yen
* Entering hospital: 4,000 yen per a day
* Going to hospital: 2,000 yen per a day
Compensation to other persons and things: 2,000,000,000 yen
Compensation is only for voluntary activities, but NOT for:
* Illness * Baggage * Disaster * War * Transportation

2) Costs that are covered

* Meals (three times a day) and accommodation DURING the workcamp period.

* Transportation for the program organized by NICE, such as voluntary service.

(All travel costs to and from the workcamp and all personal expense during free time such as

transportation, alcohol, sweets, etc. must be covered by Volunteers.)

*It may be very difficult to change or withdraw money during the workcamp. So, please prepare adequate funds of Japanese Yen in Cash beforehand !!

3) Workcamp Language

All participants are required to speak English during the workcamp as a common language (unless noted differently in the project description). Also, please try to speak Japanese with the local people!(Of course if you join workcamp(s) in Thailand, try to speak Thai, or the native language depending where you are!) Even if only to say “Arigato” or “Ohaiyo”, local people will feel that you have made an effort. Locals may be shy of foreigners at first, so a friendly attitude is very important.

4) Arrival & Stay

All volunteers are required to arrive at the workcamp on the first day (before dinner), and to stay till the last day (after lunch) since we often have orientation and introduction or evaluation meeting and cleaning accommodation and welcome or farewell party on the first or last days. Your participation is very important for both you and us. In case of any difficulty, please mention it on "The Confirmation Form".

5) Cooperation

The qualifications of volunteers are as follows;

1)High motivation for voluntary work (Special skills or physical strength are not necessary)
2) Responsibility to follow the rules of NICE and the hosts, and to cooperate in the smooth running of the workcamps
3) Best efforts to understand and respect the policies, ways and culture of NICE, the hosts and other volunteers
4) Aged 18 or over with the good physical and mental health (there are some cases where we can accept persons under 18)
5) Open minded and an effort to make friends, try to speak English in the group and Japanese with the locals as much as possible
6) Ability to adapt (and enjoy!) simple living conditions (you may eat rice in almost every meal.)

6) Cancellation of your participation

If you have to cancel your participation in a workcamp you need to inform us at NICE () and your sending organization immediately!!!

The workcamp will be very enjoyable, but if you are only interested in a holiday and are not motivated for voluntary service please cancel your participation immediately and travel on your own. If your motivation to participate is to create effective innovative change within the community and the world and to develop a relationship with the local community and other volunteers we actively welcome your participation!

Please remember to keep your room and accommodation clean, and not to make too much noiseespecially at night. (Even 21:00 can be late for locals. Karaoke rooms are an exception!)

Each of our workcamps have 1-2 Japanese camp-leaders from NICE, and their role is to act as coordinators of the group and to aid contact with local people. Please do not expect too much assistance from your leaders because workcamps should be run and created by each one of you! If your attitude and actions are too uncooperative or negative (e.g. not working properly, not respecting the rules/ not taking turns cooking, breaking with local manners/ culture, excluding somebody, disrupting the group atmosphere, etc.), the leader, local coordinators or NICE staff may ask you to improve. In the case that you don’t, we have to ask you to leave the workcamp as the final choice. This is a very sad situation, but is sometimes necessary, although almost all of our past volunteers were very NICE!

The Confirmation Form: This is to confirm your participation in our workcamp(s) with the agreement of "The conditions of participation" below. PLEASE complete the form and return it to us as soon as possible (at least3 weeks before the project’s start date)!
