ADDITION OF SELF CARE ITEMS TO CANTEEN LISTS

Purpose

To implement recommendation 9 of “A Pharmacy Service for Prisoners” published in June 2003, that prisoners should have access to self-care.

Performance Standards

Standard 40 applies.

Output

The self-care items listed in Annex A will be available for purchase through prison shops.

Impact and Resource Assessment

There should be no resource implications for establishments. Availability of self-care items from the prison shop may reduce demands on health care and pharmacy services.

Mandatory Action

Governors must ensure that the self-care items listed in Annex A are included in the baseline list of items available for purchase.

Audit & Monitoring

Self audit of Standard 40.
