CHECKLIST FOR ADDING A MULTIPLE SUBJECTS ENDORSEMENT TO AN EXISTING LICENSE
Prior to gaining admission into the Program, you will need to meet SOU Subject Knowledge requirements for the “Multiple Subjects” endorsement:
___Review the enclosed Prerequisite Coursework form for the Multiple Subjects endorsement. Meet with the appropriate advisor to determine what courses you may still need in order to be commensurate with endorsement requirements. (Bring a copy of your transcripts and any documentation showing equivalent experience to the meeting.)
___Complete the prerequisite coursework outlined by your advisor. Have your advisor sign the Prerequisite Coursework to verify your completion of prerequisite coursework.
___Submit passing scores for the NES ORELA Civil Rights Exam.
Admissions requirements for adding the new endorsement:
Once you have completed the above items, you need to meet the following requirements in order to gain admission into SOU Graduate Studies and the Education program (SOU MAT graduates need only submit a copy of their teaching License and Item 4 below):
___1. Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
___2. Have completed an approved teacher education program enabling you to be eligible for an Oregon teaching license. Please include a copy of your present Oregon or out of state teaching license.
___3.Complete and submit the University’s Application for Graduate Admission form and pay the admission fee. Persons who have previously been officially admitted and attended as SOU post-baccalaureate or graduate students do not have to pay the admission fee. Please note that this form, the fee, and all official transcripts should be sent to the Admissions Office, not the School of Education.
___4.Fill out the Application for Admission to the School of Education and complete and sign the Character Question form.
___5.Submit two recommendations from immediate supervisors attesting to your competence to work with school-aged youth.
After gaining admission:
___Complete the Adding a Multiple Subjects Endorsement Programform with your advisor.
To complete the program:
___Complete required coursework successfully.
___Register for Ed 533, Advanced Curriculum Work Sample, and complete a curriculum unit at the elementary level to be supervised by university faculty during implementation in the classroom.
___Register for Ed 509, a 90-hour practicum in an elementary classroom, in order to have university supervision and verification of proficiency.
___Submit passing scores for the NES Elementary Education SubtestsIII (or, if taken prior to June 2011, Oregon Educator Licensure Assessments (ORELA) exams Subtests II and III).
