  1. Summary

ACT’s Fundraising Team generates incometo fund vital projects to improve patient care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, which cannot be funded by the NHS.The majority of charitable gifts are from grateful patients and families, in appreciation of the care received.

The post holder will be responsible for implementing a strategy to increase awareness of charitable giving amongst a wider population of patients and staff, to boost ACT’s charitable income, so we can spend more money on patient care.

This role is new, and important to the charity, because you will ensure that patients and families who would like to make charitable gifts are able to do so, and know how to do so. You will be responsible for building strong relationships with hospital staff at all levels, so they can refer patients interested in making a gift to the charity, and be confident that donors will be well-looked after by a professional and courteous fundraising team.

  1. Role

This is a new role with two key areas of responsibility:

  1. Working with hospital staff to recognise and refer grateful patients to the fundraising team

The post holder will co-ordinate a programme of activity to recruit grateful patients to the charity, through referrals from hospital staff. This role will focus primarily on two specific areas of the hospital; Children and Cancer, expanding to other areas once successful. You will need to become the charity champion in these areas; gaining trust and build strong relationships with hospital staff to plan sensitive and diplomatic engagement with their patients. Leads generated through this collaboration will be carefully triaged and directed to the fundraising team who will build relationships directly with patients to help fulfil their fundraising ambitions.

  1. Increasing visibility of Addenbrooke’s charity to patients and staff: awareness building

Around 750,000 patients visit Addenbrooke’s every year but awareness of the charity is low. Within 5 years, the charity aims to increase awareness amongst patients and staff to significantly increase charitable income. The postholder will be the driving force to increase patient (and staff) awareness by seeking out opportunities to increase the visibility of ACT within the hospital.

  1. Duties

a)Deliver two specific grateful patient programmes of activity for engagement with Cancer services and Women’s and children services. These programmes may include staff training, staff briefings, collateral, engaging visual displays, use of clinic TV screens, small-scale bespoke events, tailored donation mechanisms etc.

b)Work with ACT’s partner training company to co-ordinate grateful patient fundraising training for key staff groups in the hospital.

c)Encourage staff to refer any potential fundraising / donor leads to the appropriate fundraising team.

d)Collaborate on projects with the Communications team to produce bespoke materials for wards and departments, to generate awareness of the charity and its impact.

e)Establish a permanent ACT presence in a high footfall area of the hospital

f)Monitor the impact of the Grateful Patient Fundraising programme on ACT’s fundraising income.

g)To develop and maintain excellent relationships with patients, hospital staff and ACT colleagues.

h)To develop and project manage carefully prepared activity plans, with specific objectives budgets and timeframes.

i)To take responsibility for programme-related day-to-day administrational tasks.

j)To collaborate with the Head of Charitable Expenditure (Line Manager) and Director of Fundraising as and when required.

  1. To participate in team meetings, planning and any corporate development activities and initiatives as may be identified from time to time.
  1. To undertake any other reasonable task as may be identified as necessary by the senior management team from time to time.
