Thorough knowledge of structure test methods and processes

Role Background:

The Bank of Ireland Group IT Unit delivers IT services and business solutions to the BOI Group. Bank of Ireland are currently looking to appoint an Automation Engineer within the Test CoE Unit to develop test automation strategy, maintain a test automation framework and develop a test case tracking system for the Unit.

Working closely with the Head of Test COE a core element of the role will be theidentification of automation opportunities and they will have responsibilityfor continuous automation improvement within the CoE. In addition they will develop various test data creation tools and other testing tools needed to support the quality assurance team

KeyResponsibilities will fall under 3 headings:

Strategic

  • Defining and expanding the Automation Framework
  • Identifying key automation efficiency gains across the estate - Automation analysis of core components/systems
  • Quantifying the benefits of automation via cost analysis
  • Setting up and managing the automation architecture and identifying tooling to be used
  • Providing Expert understanding of key automation tooling, such as QTP
  • Work with Test Managers to identify automation opportunities at the program level
  • Provide resource planning and demand management for test automation

Project

  • Overseeing the preparation of the automation strategy for individual Projects
  • Defining/extract automation requirements from various sources of information
  • Understand and perform risk mitigation to meet deadlines
  • Provide automation enhancement recommendations based on data analysis
  • Work with Test Manager, System Leads, Business Analysts, and Application Developers to create requirements for test automation to support complexity, schedule and risk mitigation

People

  • Managing the automation team with demonstrated ability in motivating and managing colleagues and vendors
  • Direct test automation engineers to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of automated test cases during appropriate phases of testing
  • Manage and promote the usage of test automation tools. (e.g. conduct training and knowledge sharing sessions for testing team as needed)

In addition to the essential experience required, the following experience is desirable:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in problem solving, decision making, influencing, change management, written and oral communications along with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Experience with optimizing deployment of human and hardware resources within a multi-project organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with an aptitude for supervising/directing resources along with a proven history of making lifecycle process improvement
  • Technical expertise in automation methodologies and tools
  • Resource management / demand forecasting skills
  • Strategic technical resource planning skills
  • Excellent demonstrated ability of managing vendors
