S3 P.E Studies

The P.E Studies course allows pupils to gain a deeper understanding of the Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes highlighted within “A Curriculum for Excellence” as they progress on their individual pathway towards National Qualifications. Pupils will have the opportunity to improve their practical performance, increase fitness levels and enhance their personal and interpersonal skills and attributes, which will enable them to develop the concepts and skills necessary for participation in a wide range of activities.

Throughout the year, pupils will participate in five different activities. They will encounter a variety of practical learning experiences and challenges, including working on their own, with a partner and in small or large groups. The P.E Studies course will allow pupils to develop a greater depth of knowledge in each activity, whilst promoting progression, challenge and enjoyment.

Activities studied as part of the P.E Studies course include;

  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • Table Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Gymnastics

Assessment

Pupils will be continuously assessed throughout the course and progress will be measured in line with the Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes. Assessment will focus on the following three areas;

  • Movement skills, competencies and concepts.
  • Cooperation and competition.
  • Evaluating and appreciating.

Evidence will be gathered on pupil progress from a variety of different sources: practical performance, peer / self assessment, feedback, Q & A, video analysis, homework tasks, verbal responses, logbook.

Homework

Pupils will complete a structured piece of homework at the end of every eight week block of activity. Each homework task will allow pupils the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of each activity, while encouraging them to analyse their own performance strengths and weaknesses.
