Post Details:Behaviour and Achievement Mentor

Responsible to:Vice Principal: Pastoral Care & Safeguarding

Grade:H5, SCP 20 to 23 £18,002.58 to £19,634.27 per annum

Hours:37 hours per week

(8am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am to 3.30pm on Fridays allowing for a 30 minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Type: Permanent, term time plus 2 weeks (40 weeks per year)

JOB OVERVIEW

  • To work under the supervision and guidance of the Vice Principal: Pastoral Care & Safeguarding to ensure all students achieve their full potential
  • To implement the academy’s behaviour system and ensure consistency of approach across the academy
  • To be a member of the Behaviour & Achievement Team (BAT) and support key positive behaviour strategies across the academy
  • To manage, monitor and enhance the academy’s behaviour and achievement student recording and tracking systems, ensuring consistency of application across the academy
  1. Key Responsibilities
  • To take responsibility for supporting teachers with behaviour issues during lesson time as a member of the BAT Team
  • To supportwith the delivery of pastoral care and academic mentoring to students at the academy
  • To be responsible for the collection and analysis of data around student behaviour (positive and negative), flagging key issues and developments
  • To act as a Learning Mentor to groups of students or individual studentsas identified
  • To undertake tracking of key students in relation to behaviour and progress
  • To assist with monitoring the targets set for students, and to help with co-ordinating appropriate intervention to maximise progress
  • To promote, manage, and be responsible for high standards of student behaviour, attendance, punctuality and dress
  • To assist with creatively implementing the academy’s systems for rewarding good student performance and conduct
  • To establish a positive partnership with parents/carers to involve them in their child’s learning and progress
  • To support the exclusions process and assist with effective re/integration of students, particularly those identified as requiring additional support or intervention
  • To work with other staff, including the Heads of Yearand external agencies, as part of the ATAC Team, to ensure that students’ needs are identified, suitable Individual Education Plans and Pastoral Support Programmes are drawn up, and that these are implemented effectively
  • To maintain accurate records of interventions and ensure consistency of communication and actions across the academy by all staff
  • To support students who are in the exit room/internal room where necessary
  • To support positive behaviour and reconciliation strategies, ensuring resolution discussions take place between staff and students and outcomes are noted
  • To lead on the planning and delivery of an ambitious intervention programme for students (and parents where necessary) to help address negative behaviours and develop students’ Proud to Belong attributes
  • To ensure rewards and sanctions are applied consistently and in line with the academy’s established Code of Conduct and Behaviour Policy
  • To carry out all the administration related to the role.
  1. Other Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for liaison with parents, governors, staff, students, members of the general public and external agencies, in a professional and efficient manner
  • Work co-operatively with support teams and provide assistance as necessary to all parents, students, staff, governors and other relevant stakeholders
  • Attendance at team meetings where relevant
  • To undertake such training as is necessary to operate the academy systems effectively and ensure that academy procedures are adhered to
  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to inclusion, child protection, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the Principal and/or relevant member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • To ensure compliance with your responsibilities as laid out in the academy’s Equal Opportunity Policy and take an active role in promoting equality and diversity
  • To work co-operatively and support the academy’s Professional Review System and commit to your own continued professional development
  • To promote the academy's ethos of being ‘Proud to Belong’ and support our commitment to providing a caring and stimulating environment, and improving standards for all students within the academy
  • To undertake all other reasonable duties as requested by the Principal.
