Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 Reporting Duties

In accordance with the duties under section3(7) of the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, please find belowMonmouthshire County Council’s reporton the level of use of active travel routes.

The data available will vary between authorities; therefore the template gives examples for the type of data that can be used.

Number of existing Active Travel Routes / In Monmouthshire, there are 7 settlements covered by the mapping duties of the Active Travel Act. The number of existing routes are as follows:
Abergavenny – 1 shared use, 5 walk-only, 2 cycle-only
Caldicot – 5 shared use
Chepstow – 5 shared use, 1 walk-only
Gilwern – 1 shared use, 1 walk-only
Magor – none
Monmouth – 2 shared use, 1 walk-only, 1 cycle-only
Usk - 1 shared use, 1 walk-only
The number of proposed (INM) routes is as follows:
Abergavenny – 27
Caldicot – 21
Chepstow – 14
Gilwern – 7
Magor – 11
Monmouth – 18
Usk – 11
These are either managed as part of the council’s Highway network or the Countryside right-of-way network. Work is ongoing to ensure identification of expenditure directly relating to the ERM routes.

* The pyro element into way marker post is damaged by bird on the 29th May 2016. Due to this after 29th May 2016, most of days daily count data recorded is zero or very low in the month June, July, August and September other days daily count data looks good but low compare to 2015.

Retrieval of data was last undertaken in 2014, and then discontinued as a cost saving measure. Options to restart retrieval of data is being investigated.
