The role
To provide coaching, support and guidance to young people with learning disabilities. You will support interns to learn their placement tasks and provide the necessary coaching, training and encouragement to succeed. You will work closely with mentors on the host site to ensure they are supported and can confidently manage and train their intern. You will facilitate their progression into paid employment by supporting interns to make direct contact with employers and by carrying out your own employer engagement.
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, with a thorough understanding of the social model of disability and high expectations of people with learning disabilities. You will need excellent problem solving and negotiation skills.
Background to the role
AoD are recruiting for a Job Coach for our well established Project SEARCH programme at St George’s Hospital, Tooting. This is a partnership project between AoD, Cricket Green School and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.

The placements run for an academic year and conclude in June 2018. We aim to progress all of our clients into paid work – either within the Hospital or with external employers. The job coach will be responsible for supporting the clients on placement as well as finding paid work opportunities.
Your profile
You are passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to become independent. You have a good working knowledge of the social model of disability. Ideally you have some experience in supported employment or a similar role. You have an outgoing, positive, empathetic, assertive personality and a clear and straightforward communication style.
