Job Description

POST:YOUNG CARERS SUPPORT COORDINATOR – PART TIME

(East Surrey – covering boroughs of Epsom& Ewell, Reigate& Banstead and

Tandridge)

SALARY: PRO RATA £23,994-£26,532 including IFLW

NJC Scale: 27-30 (plus 1%)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Line Manager in Surrey Young Carers Service.

HOURS : 18 hours per week, over a minimum of three days (on days and times

to be agreed at interview) including some evening and weekend work for

which time off in lieu will be accorded.

OFFICE BASE : Reigate

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To establish work in partnership with voluntary and statutory agencies to support Young Carers.
  • To provide an advocacy service to Young Carers.
  • To support Young Carers in both individual and group settings with a carer focus by providing information, opportunities for time out and meeting other Young Carers.
  • To work with Young Carers to meet the outcomes of Every Child Matters

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • To understand and implement policies standards and procedures of Action for Carers (Surrey).
  • To provide area information to Managers meeting required deadlines.
  • To Co ordinate the planning and delivery of work in the locality.
  • To participate and contribute towards fortnightly Area Meetings in liaison with Co-Workers and Line Manager in response to meeting the requirements of the service.
  • To raise awareness and develop partnership work of Young Carer issues through presentations and attendance at external meetings with professionals.
  • To support the work ofother service members in order to deliver a robust and high quality activities and workshops to Young Carers.
  • To support the work of the Young Carer Education Advisors within the area.
  • To provide reports and evaluations as required including confidential and up to date case notes and records of work with Young Carers.
  • To plan, coordinate, attend and evaluatetwo groups per year that each run for 8 consecutive weeks.
  • To provide written and ongoing supervision for Sessional Workers and Volunteers during groups, keeping comprehensive records.
  • To work in line with Surrey Young Carers budget, keep accurate written and computerised records by the deadlines required.
  • To attend and pro actively contribute to the following meetings:
  • 6 weekly Team Meetings, Individual Supervision with Line Manager and Fortnightly Area Meetings.
  • To complete individual assessments with families and young carers referredto Surrey Young Carers and working in consultation with area team to devise atime specific action plan meeting identified needs.
  • To maintain an awareness of provision of external services within the area in order to provide a valuable signposting and advocacy service for Young Carers.
  • To ensure that all activities meet current legislative requirements, good practice and are line with ACS policies and procedures. In particular to understand their responsibilities in their role in relation to safeguarding.
  • To undertake any other duties as appropriate, commensurate with the grading of the post.
  • To work in accordance with the Action for Carers Code of conduct for staff.

A proportion of the postholder's work will take place during the evenings, and the support worker must also be available to partake in occasional residential weekend breaks.
