o San Diego – Manchester Grand Hyatt, Aug 4-7 @ $219/night (11 votes)
o San Francisco – Hyatt, Aug 18-21 @ $199/night (12 votes)
o Anaheim – Hyatt Regency Orange County, Aug 11-14 @ $189/night (1 vote)
1755 – Old Business (Slide 6 & 7)
· Orlando minutes approved
· Kamal Shweyk addresses committee in regards to an acute shortage of session chairs for the conference due to no shows
o Francis Priolo volunteers to take AFM – 07 (Bandau Pamadi cannot attend)
o Craig Cox volunteers to take AFM-02 (Mujahid Abdulrahim cannot attend)
o Thomas Nicoll volunteers to take Flight Test session (Peggy Hayes cannot make it)
1830 – Break for dinner and continuation of old business
· Letters of support and thanks to TC members employer idea is discussed.
o Attending members unanimously agree to the idea. No action items assigned as yet.
· Upcoming conferences and locations are announced
o No comments
· TAC meeting for the conference is cancelled
· Dr. Lijewski briefs the TC on recent developments of the K-12 Education Project
o Latest paragraphs are ready for view and/or download on the AFM TC website
o Missile/Projectile Flight Mechanics and Flying Qualities paragraphs need the most work (mostly, these paragraphs need pictures)
o DEADLINE: Paragraphs must be ready for AIAA review by the opening of the AFM Conference in Orlando . Technical sub-committees must meet and amend the paragraphs
o ACTION ITEM (Thomas Nicoll): Determine the best way to host the new site and post a link on the AFM TC website
o Dr. Lijewski will coordinate with AIAA headquarters for the material to be reviewed.
· Agamemnon Crassidis discusses the winners of the Most Influential Paper of the 70’s in place of Peggy Williams-Hayes
o Work still needed to be done in reference to some form of awards ceremony
o Authors will give some form of the winning paper in Orlando 2011
o Multiple TC members comment that the papers should be given during the Summer conference (Portland 2011)
o Agamemnon will contact the winners and arrange a special session.
o Edmund Field comments that the cost of the conference may be a problem for some of the winning authors
o When asked if a similar contest should be performed for the 80’s, committee unanimously agreed yes.
1855 – New Business
· New working group: Fluid Dynamics Challenges in Flight Mechanics (Applied Aero and Fluid Dynamics TCs)
o AFM TC members encouraged to participate.
· Technical Subcommittee assignments
o Brian Danowsky accepts chair of System Identification.
o Idea is passed around that involves combing System Identification and Flight Test Sub-Committees
o Suggestion will be made to Steve Dunn. No objections from any TC members present.
· Functional Subcommittee assignments for new members
o Christopher Cotting – Not yet assigned
o Micheal Grant – Membership and awards
o Richard Lind - Conferences

· Agamemnon Crassidis recaps AIAA to AFM TC alignment and Strategic Plan Assignment
o Loss of knowledge base in the industry is addressed, “We need to make the committee more diverse”
· Education and Liaison
o Pre-College Outreach
§ Include a K-12 educator in the Committee
§ Find a teacher who has integrated aerospace into their curriculum and recognize that achievement
· Biggest issue is cost. Dave Klyde refers to the “bucket of money” at AFMs disposal for this sort of project. Contact Dave Riley
o College Outreach
§ We need to determine AIAAs involvement in university accreditation to define where we can help
§ We need to get involved with the universities
§ We need to get involved with student chapters
o Professional Development
§ More Best Practices sessions are needed.
§ We must determine what new graduates need
§ Craig Cox discusses problems getting the short course listing funded
