Dear

Acting as a Proposer for Fellowshipof the Landscape Institute 2012

Many thanks for agreeing to act as a Proposer for the above Chartered Member’s application for election as a Fellow of the Landscape Institute (FLI). This letter has been forwarded to you by the applicant, who should have first confirmed with you that you are happy to act in this capacity and advised you of the relevant deadlines.

The designation Fellow of the Landscape Institute is conferred upon senior Members of the profession, recognising their talent, expertise and particular contribution to landscape architecture. Through its award of Fellowship, the LI seeks to recognise its leaders, innovators and ambassadors and those who have made a special contribution to the development and promotion of the profession.

Under the terms of the Charter, in order to be eligible for election to Fellowship, Members must and ‘have had practical experience of and responsibility for important work in landscape architecture’. In particular, the LI’s Fellowship Admissions Board looks for evidence of a candidate’s

  • professional experience and performance, which should have been varied, substantial and of outstanding quality;
  • contribution to the Institute and the profession as a whole, which should also have been substantial;
  • personal qualities and integrity, particularly qualities which are outstanding.

As one of the above applicant’s Proposers, you are asked to provide a confidential statement to the Institute with regard your knowledge of their professional experience and personal integrity. It is therefore important that you know the applicant sufficiently well to be in a position to make a full and frank statement.

Within your statement, please comment on how long and in what capacity you have known the applicant and make a full and positive statement with regard to three specific criteria explained above. It would be particularly helpful to the Fellowship Admissions Board if you would bring out the applicant’s personal qualities and achievements as fully as possible.

An information note about the process for applying for election to Fellowship, including details of the information the applicant has been asked to provide, is enclosed for your information (if it has been omitted, you can also download it from the Members Section of the LI website).

Please note that the Board operates an annualised applications process; in 2012, the deadline for receipt of applications and supporting letters from Proposers is 1 June 2012.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any queries, please do contact me.

Yours sincerely

Jac Harris, Membership Executive
