EXPECTATION FOR ALL EMPLOYEES:
Support the mission, vision and values of United Way of Westchester & Putnam (UWWP). When appropriate, participate in various after hours and weekend activities that benefit UWWP and the community. Due to the leadership role UWWP is called upon to play in the community, it is the expectation that all UWWP staff will be fully engaged in community meetings, events and activities.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Vice President, Resource Development supports the implementation of the integrated strategic marketing plan to support UWWP/2-1-1 strategic goals The Senior Vice President, Resource Development has primary responsibility for designing and implementing organization-wide strategies to maximize fundraising, drive incremental revenue growth, and strengthen and broaden the quantity and quality of United Way of Westchester & Putnam’s (UWWP) donor relationships. The Senior Vice President ensures that UWWP achieves its fundraising goals, deepens its engagements with new and existing partners, and aligns its funding channels with its Strategic Focus Areas. The Senior Vice President will create goals concerning individual and corporate giving and will supervise personnel and programs aimed at achieving those goals.
The Senior Vice President will inspire and lead efforts to improve and maintain existing donor relationships, and will develop, implement, and maintain new strategic alliances, especially in support of UWWP’s Focus Areas. In concert with the President & CEO, he/she will be responsible to increase both the number of donors and size of donations. The Senior Vice President is a member of the executive team and works closely with the other Senior Vice Presidents of UWWP to support the President by aligning with senior leadership across the organizationand by working closely with the Board, volunteers and staff to achieve UWWPfundraising and program goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Focuses on opportunities to gain the resources that support UWWP’s mission and community impact focused strategic objectives.
  • Keep abreast of current economic, political, legislative, technical, and general community and business trends that may affect the organization and its relationships in the community. Recommend appropriate organizational responses to conditions.
  • Create and maintain effective relationships that assist UWWP in strengthening and increasing existing revenue streams and identifying new opportunities. Sources of these revenue streams include but aren’t limited to; workplace accounts, individuals, special events, direct mail, grants, sponsorships, and finding new and creative ways for UWWP to increase Resources Under Management.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key volunteers, business leaders, individual major donors, and corporate contribution officers.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity for all assigned account information (both financial and non-financial data). This includes building a strong knowledge of the StratusLIVE system, along with day-to-day processing expectations from Resource Development team. Executes with excellence, through best practices for doing business while utilizing resources from community partners, colleagues and other United Ways to ultimately increasing UWWP’s fundraising and volunteer base. Share ideas and knowledge with other members of Resource Development team.
  • Work with finance and administration staff to evaluate and refine information capture systems, procedures for reporting, internal reporting systems, donor acknowledgements, tracking, and data mining systems. Continually evaluate resources and systems that support the accurate capture and management of information to further the mission of the organization.
  • Designs and directs implementation of all aspects of UWWP’s resource development initiatives, including annual fundraising campaign, direct mail, corporate and individual giving, Tocqueville Society giving and planned giving.
  • Works with President, Board, and senior staff to set aggressive fundraising goals, evaluate results, and establish new and creative strategies to increase dollars raised.
  • Aligns resource development activities to support strategic objectives, particularly the impact strategies products and community engagement.
  • Solicits and cultivates potential strategic partners and presents partnership proposals.
  • Develops short and long-range partner goals, and directs initiatives to achieve these goals. Stewards ongoing partner relations.
  • Cultivates relationships with current and potential foundation funders and Tocqueville donors.
  • Directs the development and maintenance of a comprehensive donor data base.
  • Directs the development and implementation of a donor segmentation program.
  • Directs comprehensive donor communications and follow-up activities in consultation with Chief Information Officer.
  • Motivates, sets objectives, encourages productivity, and manages the goals and expectations of direct reports and staff. Encourages the development of RD staff.
  • Provides senior level representation for UWWP throughout Westchester & Putnam, as required.
  • Works closely with the President and other Senior Vice Presidents as a team to provide senior management guidance and direction for the organization.
  • Provides leadership and ensures all Resource Development can articulate and communicate United Way’s brand values, strategic focus areas, and outcomes expectations to all audiences.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all standards, policies, and practices of United Way of Worldwide and United Way of Westchester & Putnam.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Masters Degree preferred. CRFE certified preferred.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum 10 years’ progressive fundraising experience, including management experience in this role or equivalent training and experience which provides the required knowledge.

Skill Requirements:

Incumbent must be mission-focused, relationship-oriented, a collaborator, results-driven, detailed oriented, able to take initiative, and a brand steward, a strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to develop and execute long range fund-raising strategies, a desire and the capacity to build and steward strategic alliances in a diverse community, including significant contact with large and small corporations and Tocqueville donors, a confident, poised, presenter with a strong analytical and strategic orientation, outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, excellent motivational, and supervisory and staff developmental skills, and a "roll up your sleeves" work ethic; resourceful, analytical self starter. Strong analytically and strategic thinking; a passion for results. Proficient in the Microsoft suite of products. Capacity to work weekend or evening hours and travel within Westchester and Putnam counties. Reliable transportation and a clean driving record.
