Position/Title:Communications Coordinator

General Description:

The Communications Coordinator VISTA will work closely with the Partnership Director and Communications team to establish strategic marketing and communications platforms and plans for Achieve Escambia. This platform will support the development, implementation & sustainment of the following components: a website (inclusive of the virtual version of the cradle to career roadmap/scorecard), Newsletter, Public relations pieces – opinion articles, editorials (a quantified amount of positive press), a robust social media presence, and an annual report (worked on in partnership with the data coordinator & analyst).

Primary Duties:

  • Through direct work with the Partnership Director, establish a strategic marketing plan for community engagement, internal communications, highlighting best practices and partner success and creating awareness of the mission and vision of Achieve Escambia.
  • Research other Strive Together community communications platforms and best practices for the aforementioned components.
  • Brainstorm ideas for implementation through collaboration with the communications team.
  • Develop mockups of plans for key components; discuss with communications team.
  • Present the plan to community transformation council {in conjunction with communications team chair}.
  • Implement strategic marketing and communications plans.
  • Create and develop marketing collateral and promotion materials.
  • Work with community partners to promote and oversee implementation with partners.
  • Track and report progress of strategic marketing plans.
  • {if applicable} Follow-up with media partners to ensure contractual agreements are being upheld by both parties.
  • Report progress & impact of marketing efforts to communications team (successes and challenges). Track web and social media impressions and public relations efforts.
  • Create final reports on success of the communications and marketing plan for the Partnership Director and communications team with a corresponding action register for the coming year.
  • Assist Partnership Director with events, committee meetings, & community outreach efforts.
  • Assist with logistical support and documentation/promotion of committee and leadership meetings of Achieve Escambia governance structure, which includes developing internal communications method for meeting reminders and reporting out and assisting with supplies, documentation {design} of agenda/meeting packets.
  • Assist with promotion and event management of any large-scale Achieve Escambia events to include: development of program materials, script, event brand, etc.
  • Select and attend at least monthly, community outreach events of Achieve Escambia partners to highlight the work aligned with priority outcomes.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Offer suggestions for improvement and growth in an effective manner.
  • Represent Achieve Escambia at community fairs, presentations, businesses, civic, professional development, and school-based groups.
  • Work closely with the Communications teamon all promotional efforts.
  • Serve as an ambassador and key supporter of all at Achieve Escambia initiatives.
  • Position is based upon a 40 hour work week and full-time employment status. Additional hours may be a possibility and required during the week and/or weekend prior to, of and after an event based on program needs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School degree.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age, US citizen or permanent resident status.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of multimedia tools and online platforms as well as an understanding of print production.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital and social media.
  • Basic aptitude in use of general office equipment.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software, email and internet support.
  • Maintains a professional manner in order to work with the volunteers, staff and community.

Preferred:

  • Previous volunteer experience, employee management experience, and/or national service experience.
  • Past experience in marketing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit at work station for long periods (4-8 hours).
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Lift 15-25 lbs.

Stipend and benefits

The Communications Coordinator VISTAwill receive a monthly stipend plus limited health care benefits, child care assistance (if needed) and student loan deferment while in service. One year position

This is a one year commitment to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Achieve Escambia as part of the VISTA ALIGNS program. Preferably this position would have an immediate start date.
