Accessing Microsoft Classroom and Completing Assignments for Students

1.)As a general rule, ALWAYS use the Mozilla Firefox browser when accessing Microsoft Classroom. You can access Firefox by using the following steps:

  1. Click on the Windows button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen:
  1. Click on Mozilla Firefox:

2.)By default, Firefox should have three tabs open: Office 365 Login Page, Skyward Login Page, and the RCAS District Website. Click on the Office 365 Login Page tab. If you don’t see these tabs when you open Firefox, use this web address to access Office 365: login.microsoftonline.com

3.)Login to Office 365 using your provided username and password. Here is the naming convention for logging in:

-Username: (where A is your first initial, B is your last initial, and 1234 is the provided four-digit number)

-Password:AB-12345 (where A is your first initial, B is your last initial, and 12345 is the provided five digit number)

4.)You will be taken to the home page for Office 365. To access Microsoft Classroom, click on the Classroom Icon:

5.)A new tab will open in your browser. NOTE: If you encounter a purple screen telling you that Microsoft Classroom isn’t set up yet and you need to provide user information, IGNORE THIS and click the Sign In button in the top right hand corner of the screen:

6.)Otherwise, you will see the Microsoft Classroom page that lists all of your classes on the left hand side of the screen. Click on the class you want to access:

7.)Once you have chosen your class, click on the Assignments tab and find your assignment. It may be located under either the To do or Past tabs depending on when the assignment is/was due:

8.)Click on your assignment to open it up:

9.)Inside of the assignment, click on the My Work tab. Your teacher will either require you to edit a document they have provided you OR you need to create a new document (Word, PowerPoint, or Excel).

10.)If for some reason you do not have the file your teacher provided, you can create a copy from the Resources tab by click on the Copy to my work button to the right of the file:

11.)If the file is an Office file (Word, PowerPoint, or Excel), you can click on the file and begin editing it in the Online version of that program. Otherwise, click on the file to open and view it (PDF, Image, Video, etc.)

12.)If you are working with an Office file, a new tab will open so you can edit the document. You will likely be unable to edit the file currently. In order to edit the file, click on the Edit Document drop down menu. IMPORTANT: As a general rule, ALWAYS click the Edit in Browser option. This is true even when working on assignments on a personal device or desktop computer. The reason is because your work will not automatically save if you use the Desktop version of an Office product.

13.)You should now be able to edit the document. NOTE: Change the name of file to your desired name or what your teacher expects you to name it. Click on the title to edit the document name.

14.)You do not need to save the file you are working on. Your files will be saved automatically so long as you chose Edit in Browser previously.

15.)You can close out of your document at any time. You can access your work through Microsoft Classroom on Office 365 from any Internet-capable device, such as a home computer or tablet.
