ACCESS PANELS FOR HVAC SYSTEMS

(NOTE: ACCESS DOORS THAT NEED TO BE INSTALLED IN WALLS OR CEILINGS FOR

EQUIPMENT NEED TO BE SHOWN ON MECHANICAL PLANS AND ARCHITECTURAL PLANS

BY DESIGN PROFESSIONAL OR AS REQUIRED FOR ACCESS)

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A.Section Includes:

1.Furnish wall and ceiling access doors indicated on Drawings and as indicated in Part 3 of this Specification.

1.02 SUBMITTALS

A.General Requirements: Provide submittals in accordance with Section 013300.

B.Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical data and installation instructions, including setting drawings, templates, instructions, and directions for installation of anchorage devices.

C.Shop Drawings: Submit a Shop Drawing portfolio showing access panels to be used and a schedule of equipment and areas to be served for approval by Architect/Engineer. Include details, elevations, anchorage, and accessory items.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.Fire Resistance Ratings: Wherever a fire resistance classification is indicated, provide access door assembly with panel door, frame, hinge, and latch from manufacturer listed in Underwriters' Laboratories (UL) "Classified Building Materials Index" for rating shown.

B.Identification of Fire Rating: Provide UL label on each fire rated access door.

C.Size Variations: Obtain Architect's acceptance of manufacturer's standard size units which may vary slightly from sizes indicated on Drawings.

D.Coordination: Furnish inserts and anchoring devices which shall be built into other work for installation of access doors. Coordinate delivery with other work to avoid delay.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 FLUSH PANEL WALL ACCESS DOOR

A.Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:

1.Milcor Limited Partnership, Lima, Ohio, "Style M"

2.ACUDOR Products Inc

B.Fabrication:

1.Sizes: 24 inches by 24 inches for gypsum wall board or plaster surfaces and 24inches by 24inches for masonry surfaces.

2.Frame Material: 16 gauge steel.

3.Door Panel Material and Construction: 20 gauge steel.

4.Finish: Chemically bonded prime coat of baked enamel over a protective phosphate coating on the steel.

5.Hinge: Concealed spring hinges or continuous piano hinge with removable pins.

6.Locking Device: Key operated cylinder lock with (2) keys. Coordinate with Owner to ensure that all access panels for project operate by same key.

7.Anchors: Provide appropriate anchors for adjacent construction.

2.02 FLUSH PANEL FIRE RATED WALL ACCESS DOOR

A.Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:

1.Milcor Limited Partnership, Lima, Ohio, "Style UFR"

2.ACUDOR Products Inc

B.Fire Rating: Access door shall carry UL 11/2hour "B" Label rating.

C.Fabrication:

1.Sizes: 24 inches by 24 inches for gypsum wall board or plaster surfaces and 24inches by 24inches for masonry surfaces.

2.Frame Material: 16 gauge steel.

3.Door Panel Material and Construction: 20 gauge steel.

4.Finish: Chemically bonded prime coat of baked enamel over a protective phosphate coating on the steel.

A.Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:

1.Milcor Limited Partnership, Melrose Park, IL, Style K

2.ACUDOR Products Inc

B.Fabrication:

1.Sizes: 24 inches by 24 inches, 24 inches by 36 inches, 30 inches by 36inches, or 36inches by 48inches, for plaster surfaces.

2.Frame Material: 16 gauge steel.

3.Door Panel Material and Construction: 14 gauge steel.

4.Finish: Chemically bonded prime coat of baked enamel over a protective phosphate coating on the steel.

5.Hinge: Concealed spring hinges or continuous piano hinge with removable pins.

6.Locking Device: Key operated cylinder lock with (2) keys. Coordinate with Owner to ensure that all access panels for project operate by same key.

7.Anchors: Provide appropriate anchors for adjacent construction.

2.04 FLUSH PANEL DRYWALL CEILING ACCESS DOOR

A.Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:

B.Fabrication:

1.Sizes: 24 inches by 24 inches for drywall board surfaces.

2.Frame Material: 16 gauge steel.

3.Door Panel Material and Construction: 14 gauge steel.

4.Finish: Chemically bonded prime coat of baked enamel over a protective phosphate coating on the steel.

5.Hinge: Concealed spring hinges or continuous piano hinge with removable pins.

6.Locking Device: Key operated cylinder lock with (2) keys. Coordinate with Owner to insure that all access panels for project operate by same key.

7.Anchors: Provide appropriate anchors for adjacent construction.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A.Coordination: Coordinate and ensure that access panels provided under this Contract are built into the structure at the proper location and elevation and at the proper time. Furnish access panels to appropriate Contractors for installation into their work.

B.Access Doors to be Furnished: Access shall be provided to any type of valve, control valve, trap, manual vent, damper, etc. that requires adjustment, replacement, or visual inspection. Furnish access doors to access ductwork access doors and where shown on Drawings.

1.Contractor shall include the cost of [ ] extra panels in Bid, minimum size of 24by 24, for location during construction.
