Access, Admission, Induction & Pathway, Exit

Access

Gloucestershire County Council in partnership with Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Alternative Provision School (CTAPS) commission up to 54 places for permanently excluded pupils and those with no school place. Local schools may also refer pupils at the risk of permanent exclusion via a School Partnership Agreement; these are funded directly by the school.

Admission

a)The Local Authority (LA) or individual school refers pupils directly CTAPS

b)Contact is made with home on the same day to arrange a meeting and admission to CTAPS before the 6th day of exclusion. A copy of the letter in send to the Education, Inclusion and Entitlement Team.

c)Contact is made with the previous school to request detailed information about the child

d)When the child is Looked After (LAC) the initial meeting takes place on or as near to the 1st day of exclusion.

Initial meeting with parents/carers and child (Checklist below)

  • Completion of consent forms
  • Gather and record medical information
  • Gather information about circumstances leading to exclusion or referral
  • Log interests, likes and dislikes, aims and ambitions.
  • Gather and record information about NC Levels, qualifications, awards, achievements (information provided by school should be available)
  • Explain procedure to gather baseline information and agree a time for this to take place and for the induction and pathway meeting. Baseline information relates to: English and Maths NC levels, behaviour, and attendance
  • Explain procedure for the induction and pathway meeting which takes place after baseline information has been gained
  • Explain expectations in relation to academic progress behaviour and attendance. This should include
  • Classroom conduct, individual academic support and daily mentoring
  • Individual pastoral support and daily mentoring
  • Behaviour action plans
  • Procedure and practice for incentives, rewards and sanctions
  • Attendance action plans
  • Provide parents and pupil with information booklet (details of the previous bullet should be included)

Induction and Pathway

Second meeting with parents/carers and child

  • Explain to parents and pupils the results of baseline tests
  • Detail the focus for improvement based on information compiled
  • Inform parents and pupils the name of individual mentor
  • Agree with parents and pupils the pathway to next destination
  • Explain how progress is monitored and tracked and information communicated to parents

ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION GENERATES THE BASELINE PROFILE

Exit

The vast majority of Key Stage 4 pupils remain at CTAPS until the end of year 11.

Most permanently excluded pupils in Key Stage 2 and 3 return to mainstream education via the Fair Access Panel.

A small number of pupils have a Statement for SEN and where ‘Special School’ is named on the Statement an appropriate special school placement is located.
