Finance Internship

Christian Aid Ireland is currently seeking applications for avolunteer intern to come on board on from September 2012 – June 2013 as part of the finance team based in Christian Aid’s Belfast Office. This is an exciting new opportunity for an individual from a finance background to utilize and develop their financial and accounting skills, be part of a team and contribute to Christian Aid’s development work in your local area and throughout the world.

This internship is available full time for the period from September to June, however part time applicants may be considered.

What you will be doing

You will be assisting in the day to day running of the finance departmentand thiscould include any of the following tasks:

  • Assisting in the proper processing of incoming donations and payment of suppliers.
  • Preparation and posting journals to the general ledger.
  • Performing control account reconciliations.
  • Assisting the in the preparation and production of monthly management accounts.
  • Assisting in the preparation of year end statutory accounts.
  • Assisting in the preparation and auditing of gift aid claims.
  • Extracting and analyzing specific financial reports from the ledger.
  • Reviewing, revising and documenting internal control procedures.

You may also be given the opportunity to participate in high level financial tasks such as assisting in the preparation of papers and presentation of same to the Finance and Audit Committee and/or the Board. You will also be given the opportunity to attend the charity’s Annual General Meeting held in December 2012.

You may also be asked to assist in more general office tasks when cover is required.

The successful applicant will:

and more specifically…

  • be educated to degree level (finance/business related) or equivalent qualification
  • have considerable experience in usingMicrosoft Excel
  • have experience in using databases to analyse and summarise information
  • have experience in a computerized accounting environment.
