GUIDE TO THE INTERN SUPPORT TEAM MEETING

(a brief overview highlighting the Internship Handbook)

Before You Begin…

·  Introduce yourself: share your teaching experience and any personal information that will help the Intern Support Team get to know you.

·  Provide the best method/day/times to contact you.

·  Distribute a copy of The Internship Handbook to the Campus Mentor Teacher and Principal.

Section 1: Roles and Responsibilities of the Intern Support Team

The Intern Support Team is comprised of the Intern, Campus Mentor Teacher, Campus Principal, and University Supervisor.

Intern Responsibilities As a participant in the Accelerate Online Teacher Certification Program and Texas A&M University, the Intern agrees to practice the behaviors/expectations described in The Internship Handbook.

Campus Mentor Teacher Responsibilities The Campus Mentor Teacher will familiarizethe Internwith the procedures and policies ofthe school district/campus and will provide feedback to the University Supervisor throughout the internship experience.

*A short training session will be provided for the Campus Mentor Teacher. Please let him/her knowthat more information will be emailed.

Campus Principal Responsibilities The Principal will perform state required evaluations and maintain contact, as needed, with the University Supervisor throughout the internship experience.

University Supervisor Responsibilities The University Supervisor is considered to be the Intern's teacher for the internship experience.

·  A schedule for lesson plan and assignment submissions,bi-weekly communication, etc., will be established at this initial meeting.

·  There will be 4 Formal Observations conducted bythe University Supervisor: 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring.The first formal observation will take place within the first six weeks of the school year. Any additional observations will be conducted at the University Supervisor's discretion.

·  University Supervisor Seminars and Artifacts will be assigned by the University Supervisor based on the needs of the Intern (1 per semester).

·  A Recommendation of Eligibility for Standard Certification will be made at the end of the school year to the Accelerate Online program, based on feedback from the Campus Mentor Teacher and Principal, formal observation data, and completion of all assignments and requirements of the program.

Section 2: Code of Ethics and Policies This section contains:

Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators- This document outlines the State's enforceable standards for teachers in Texas.

Termination of Internship- There are circumstances that warrant the termination of an internship.It is vital thatany problems/concerns aredocumented thoroughly andaddressed early.

Overview of Intern Assignments

·  Classroom Management Plan The Classroom Management Plan should be reviewed/discussed with the Campus Mentor Teacher and University Supervisor.

·  Semester Schedule At the beginning of the semester, the Intern will provide a copy of his/her schedule (including conference time, lunch period, etc.) to the University Supervisor.

·  Weekly Teaching Schedule Each week the Intern will email a copy of their weekly teaching schedule to the University Supervisor with a brief description of what is planned for each day.

·  Lesson Plans (at least one lesson plan per week for the first 12 weeks) Lesson plans will be submitted directly to the University Supervisor and he/she will provide feedback. Use the school or district format, if one is provided.

·  Formal Observation Reflections Following a Formal Observation, the University Supervisor will provide feedback via an online form. The reflection questions must be completed within 2 business days by the Intern. The observation is not considered complete until the Intern’s reflections are submitted.

·  Observation of Master Teachers (minimum of 1 per semester) Each semester, the Intern will observe a Master Teacher and post a completed Master Teacher Observation Form to the Online Internship Course within one week of the observation.

·  University Supervisor Seminars and Artifacts (1 per semester) The University Supervisor will provide a seminar learning experience for the Intern each semester. A response or reflection will be posted to the Online Internship Course.

·  Additional Artifacts (1 in the fall, 2 in the spring semester) 3 additional artifacts will be posted by the Intern showcasing best efforts/work. Examples include, but are not limited to, copies of units/activities created, a newsletter to parents, etc.

·  University Supervisor Assessment by Intern The Intern will complete an on-line University Supervisor Evaluation at the conclusion of the internship experience Top of Form

·  All internship assignments must be completed to receive a recommendation for Standard Certification.

Courses Eligible to Teach for Certification Area- per TEA, 60% of a school day must be dedicated to teaching in an area eligible for the certification sought.

Formal Observation Form- to be completed post-observation (minimum of 2 observations per semester)

University Supervisor Recommendation for Certification Eligibility- completed at the conclusion of the internship year. All requirements, assignments, and successful classroom performance must be met in orderfor the Intern tobe recommended for Standard Certification.
