Academy Strength and Conditioning Lead Internships

We are currently accepting applications for an Academy Lead Strength and Conditioning Intern working across a range of age groups in the Foundation/Youth Development and Professional development phases (Under 8 to Under 21). Successful applicants will be required to work set days/hours on selected weekdays (agreed with the successful applicant) with the option of additional voluntary work.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Support the academy strength and conditioning staff whenever required in the design and implementation of training practices at SUFC.
  • Support in the development of a strategic long-term athlete developmentprogramme in consultation with Academy Strength and Conditioning and Technical/Tactical coaches, U8-U21.
  • Assist in daily Academy level fitness development sessions and programmes including:

Injury prevention, flexibility, warm-ups, cool downs, speed training, agility development, endurance, strength training and any other training elements required for the team as appropriate such as testing.

  • Maintain, develop, analyse and assist in a comprehensive database of player-monitoring programme U8-U21.
  • Specific responsibility for the support of our weekly Foundation Phase (U8-U11) Long Term Athletic Development / Strength and Conditioning programme as implemented by Lead U8-U16 Strength and Conditioning coach as well as reporting sessions daily.
  • Assist in the development of Academy Strength and Conditioning Internship scheme and interns directly.
  • Work with academy Strength and Conditioning coaches U8-U16 & U17-U21 to improve performance through developing, implementing and evaluating strength and conditioning programmes.
  • Assist in physical testing at regular times throughout the season, record, monitor and assess activities

Personal Requirements:

  • Degree level study or above (post degree level preferred) in Sport and Exercise Science or Strength and Conditioning.
  • Desirable to be UKSCA accredited or have attended workshops and working towards accreditation in which you will be supported in your development working towards accreditation.
  • A strong desire to pursue a career in the Strength and Conditioning/Sports Science in elite sport.
  • Relevant experience within sport with the use of Heart Rate and GPS data being desirable.
  • Competent in exercise anatomy and physiology.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, hardworking and committed to undertaking tasks with honesty and integrity.
