The mission of the Academy of Urban Learning is to empower young people to become
self-sufficient adults by providing a rigorous and individualized high school diploma program to youth who need extensive wraparound services to succeed academically and socially.
Academy of Urban Learning is an alternative charter high school located in downtown Denver, CO. We are completing our 6thyear of existence, with two years remaining on our current
five-year charter renewal. Starting in the Fall 2011, we serve up to 130 students, ages 16-21. We are seeking quality team players who are able to encourage and motivate young adult studentswho have experienced difficulties in traditional school settings, particularly with attendance, academic and social issues due in part to homelessness and unstable living conditions. We serve many of Denver’s hidden treasures and believe when our students are motivated and encouraged; they are capable of achieving great success. Interested and qualified team players are encouraged to apply for this great experience. This is a part-time position, 1-2 days per week.

We have career opportunities for the 2011-2012 school year in the following educational fields:
School Nurse-provides an array of nursing and wraparound services to AUL students and their support systems. Serves as the liaison between the family, school, community, always working as an advocate for the student and the student’s best interests. Services will include but are not limited to: general nursing and medical assistance, individual and group counseling, living essentials assistance and working as a member of the Special Education Team in meeting mild/moderate student’s objectives and goals according to their Individualized Educational Plan (IEPs). AUL will solicit potential candidates that possess a Bachelor’s degree as a Registered Nurse and Colorado Department of Education Initial or Professional School Nurse License. A proven record with resources in the arena of Nursing and Wraparound services for young adults from diverse backgrounds is a must!
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree encouraged
- Special Education, Mild/Moderate experienceand familiarity with the IEP process required
- Able to establish and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and alternative education students
- Team player
- Able to meet deadlines on a consistent basis
- Self-starter
- Ability to be creative through a different lens
