Hettie Kritzinger

Hettie is the owner of the Akademie vir Dramakuns in Kempton Park, she is also lecturer for Speech and Drama as 7th subject for High School pupils.

The academy for Drama was founded in 1982 and is situated in Kempton Park but tutors children from across Gauteng. At the World Championships in 2003 (Junior in Stellenbosch and Senior in Hollywood) her academy was awarded 9 gold,11 silver and 9 bronze medals. Her students also received 4 overall trophies. In 2004 at the SA Championships, her academy received 16 gold, 39 silver and 15 bronze medals. They also received 8 overall trophies.

Background

Hettie received her Licence in Speech and Drama cum laude in 1982 from the Academy of Drama and Art under Aletta Gericke and Milla Louw.

Directing

Hettie has directed numerous productions at the Kempton’s Children’s Theatre and amateur stage plays in Kempton Park. She has also directed all aspects of Eisteddfods, public speaking and SA and World Championships of Performing Arts competitions.

Scriptwriting

Hettie writes many of the award-winning monologues that her students perform. She has also collaborated with Prof F. Potgieter in the stage play Die Testament.

Adjudication

Hettie has judged the children’s theatre production Die Getoorde Bril, and numerous Eisteddfod speeches, debating speeches as well as stage plays. In addition to this, she has judged at local, regional and national ATKV events, as well as at acting competitions at the SACOPA championships in 2003.

At the WCOPA in Los Angeles in 2003, Hettie obtained a Certificate of completion – Acting Technique.In 2005 Hettie also received the “ Afrikoon” award from the ATKV for national and international achievements in the directing of plays.
