Academic Submissions

Academic articles are peer-reviewed using a double-blind peer-review process (a minimum of three anonymous reviewers). Articles of this nature typically involve both primary research and secondary research. The author must be able to, upon request, verify all primary or secondary research data used to inform the article. Submitted articles must be accompanied by a declaration from the author that there are no infringements on any copyright or intellectual property laws, and that all the appropriate ethical standards (e.g., informed consent) were followed. While journal articles usually include mainly original research papers, concept papers, article reviews, and literature reviews that contain significant new information and generate meaningful new knowledgemay also qualify.

We accept two subtypes of academic articles:

  1. Original, unpublished, academic articles that are based on an academic research study conducted by the author(s)and typicallydeveloped from both primary and secondary research data and usually involves explanatory research. The word count for this type of journal article should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words and yields significantly new knowledge on the topic.

OR

  1. An assessment or critique of a previously published, peer-reviewed, full-length article from an academic journal. Word count for this type of academic article should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words, should contain new research and at least 50% new content. The author must adhere to any copyright conditions imposed on the original article.

Feature Articles

Articles featured in GQAS publications are peer-reviewed, using a double-blind peer-review process (a minimum of three anonymous reviewers). Articles of this nature typically involve both primary research and secondary research. The author must be able to, upon request, verify all primary or secondary research data used to inform the article. Submitted articles must be accompanied by a declaration from the author that there are no infringements on any copyright or intellectual property laws, and that all the appropriate ethical standards (e.g., informed consent) were followed.

Examples of featured articles include concept papers, article reviews, literature reviews, descriptive research, and in-depth scholarly type articles typically found in leading higher education magazines, newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, and blogs that do in-depth coverage of higher education.Examples of such publications are: Times Higher Education, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Change Magazine, and Teaching and Learning Magazine.

Stipulations for feature articles:

  • Statements made by the author must be supported and grounded by evidence from the literature or results of a small scale research project.
  • The argument presented must be based on findings, not on conjecture.
  • The author must explain how his/her ideas and beliefs are related to the existing body of knowledge and what is new in what he/she is putting on the table.

We also accept scholarly: book reviews, conference reports, and technology reviews. Typical length for these types of feature articles is approximately 4,000 words and with the focus being on conferences, books, and technology applications. Do not submit exact copies of articles published or presented elsewhere (e.g. conference or workshop). Articles adapted from such articles to meet our criteria, and for which you have the copyright, can be submitted for consideration.

We accept two subtypes of featured articles:

  1. Original, unpublished, feature articles that are based on the author’s own work. Word count - between6,000 and 8,000 words.

OR

  1. An assessment or critique of a previously published, full-length article from regular periodical. Word count - between 4,000 and 6,000 words and should offer significantly new insight on the topic. The author must adhere to any copyright conditions imposed on the original article.

Submitted Opinion Articles

Opinion articles typically do not require primary or secondary research, but including a short list of references to support the article can be helpful. Opinion articles carry a word count of between 2,000 and 4,000 words and should be written infirst-person, narrative style. The author should base his/her personal views and conclusions on subject matter expertise and experience on the topic.Submitted articles must be accompanied by a declaration from the author that there are no infringements on any copyright or intellectual property laws.

Examples of opinion articles include articles that appear in the op-ed or commentary sections of magazines,newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, and blogs.

The opinions of the author need to be correct and valuable, but does not necessarily have to be based solely on the academic literature, neither does he/she required to conduct further research to test and validate those beliefs. Do not submit exact copies of articles published or presented elsewhere (e.g. conference or workshop). Articles adapted from such articles to meet our criteria, and adapted articles for which you have the copyright, can be submitted for consideration.

We accept two subtypes of opinion articles:

  1. Original, unpublished opinion articles based on the author’s personal view of a topic.

OR

  1. A critique of a previously published, full-length opinion-editorial article.

Submit article as a .doc formatted Microsoft Word document. Embedded images should be in gif, jpg, or png format. There is no pre-defined format for opinion articles, but a few general rules to observe are: use section headers were appropriate; use single-line spacing, use 12 point Times New Roman font; should be written in a professional style.

NOTE: Articles selected for publication will be reformatted to satisfy the formatting requirements of the publishing platform, for example, single-line spacing.

Submitted Interview Articles

Interview articles should bebetween 2,000 and 4,000 words. These articles typically do not involve primary or secondary research, although a short list of references to support the article is often helpful. The author must assert that the article does not infringe upon any copyright or intellectual property laws. These articles should be written infirst-person, narrative style. These articles are based on the opinion, subject matter expertise, and experience of the interviewer and interviewee.

Exact copies of articles published elsewhere are not accepted. However, if you adapt it to meet the criteria defined for this type of article and it fits the current theme of the portal and you have the copyright to any adapted material, then it can be submitted for consideration.
