Academic Senate Meeting / May 20, 2009

  1. Subject: Academic Senate Representative for ASI Senate

Detail: The ASI Senate still needs an Academic Senate representative. The ASI Senate meets every other Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. All interested parties are asked to contact ASI Vice President Mercy Daramola at or Ext. 3628. There are two more Senate meetings left in the year: Thursday, May 21st and Thursday, June 4th.

  1. Subject: Textbook Requisitions

Detail: The deadline for submitting timely textbook requisitions for Fall Quarter was last Friday, May 15th. If you have not submitted your requisitions yet, please do so as soon as possible. Timely textbook requisitions reduce the cost of textbooks for students because the Bronco Bookstore is able to offer guaranteed Buybacks and a larger percentage of used textbooks.

  1. Subject: ASI Strategic Plan

Detail: ASI has a few minor revisions for our Strategic Plan summary to be ready for the Senate’s approval on Thursday, May 21st, and submittal to Student Affairs on Friday, May 22nd. At the same time, ASI is revising and formatting the stand alone strategic plan that will include the detailed process and all six strategic initiatives. Final revisions for the stand alone document include incorporating all of the student feedback written on the butcher paper-covered tables during the ASI Outreach Tour.

  1. Subject: Airline Discounts for Clubs and Councils

Detail: Over the past few weeks, the ASI Treasurer Saul Vazakas has been working with multiple airlines (mainly American Airlines, Jet Blue, Virgin, and Southwest) to come to an agreement for a student discount for all students going on either convention, sports, or competition travel. Currently,he is specifically negotiating with Jet Blue on a percentage discount for clubs, councils, as well as athletics.

  1. Subject: ASI Student Government Blog

Detail: After a long wait due to technical difficulties, the ASI Student Government Blog is finally up and running. Check in with news about what the ASI Student Leaders are working on, and about issues affecting students on this campus.

  1. Subject: BSC Facilities Survey

Detail: 1,004 students responded to the BSC Facilities Survey. The results of this survey will be passed on to next year’s ASI Student Government administration, as well as to Foundation, Inc. in the hopes that some changes to the services and amenities offered in the Bronco Student Center will be made.

  1. Subject: ASI Elections for 2009-2010

Detail: The President, Vice President, and Senate of the 2009-2010 ASI Student Government were elected last week. Results are at the end of my report.

  1. Subject: ASI Student Government Appointed Positions

Detail: Executive Board and Cabinet member applications will be accepted from May 15th to the tentative date of June 12th. In coordination with the President-Elect, the interview process for these positions will be as early as June 15th, in hopes to be completed by June 30th. BEAT position interviews are TBA, possibly occurring the weeks following July 1st along with the new administration’s Secretary of Programs and Services. Please encourage your students to apply for these positions by picking up an application in the ASI Student Government office, located in the Bronco Student Center, across from Round Table Pizza.
