10/5/16 to 12/9/16: Sedimentologist on Integrated Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Leg 363 that collected sediment cores at 9 sites, 2 on the northwest Australian margin and 7 sites arrayed south to north from the New Guinea margin to the center of the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) (October 5, 2016 from Singapore to December 8, 2016 in Guam).

11/15 to present: In collaboration with the World Surf League (WSL) and goFlow, I helped lead the concept and content work at LDEO developing a coral bleaching monitoring tool titled “Bleach Patrol” that was added to goFlow’s outdoor sports smart phone & tablet App to monitor the 2016 coral bleaching event. The coral bleaching tool was designed to allow users to input observations, GPS coordinate and pictures about coral bleaching, reef health and position on the reef. We are evaluating options for the next phase of this project.

2016 & 2018; Panel review member for US National Science Foundation Graduate Student Research Fellowship (GRFP) program (January 2016 and January 2018).

11/16/15 to 11/20/15: Invited speaker at the CLIVAR meeting on Decadal climate variability and predictability held at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy. Talk title: “Coral Records of IPO and ENSO Variability in the South Pacific: New Results from the Expanding Coral Network”.

2011-2015; Raised funding for and designed and set up a new stable isotope laboratory at LDEO. The lab consists of 4 stable isotope mass spectrometers; three dual-inlet for carbonate and water samples and one continuous flow mass spectrometer with GC, TC-EA and EA for analysis of biomarkers and organic samples including tree ring cellulose.

7/2012: Participant IODP Leg 325 post cruise meeting at Heron Island, Australia. Presented and discussed preliminary results from analysis of GBR fossil corals.

11/2011: Co-Chief Scientist for a 2 week field expedition with Dr. Robert Dunbar (Stanford) to collect coral cores from an exceptionally large coral colony known to exist in Ta’u, American Samoa (November 2011). Successfully recovered 3 cores, the longest of which was 6.05 m, extending back ~550 years.

2010: Panel Member; National Science Foundation Marine Geology and Geophysics Program.

2009/2010; Paleoclimatologist: IODP Great Barrier Reef Expedition; Leg 325; Drilling occurred in February-March 2010 and on-shore “science party” sampling in Bremen Germany (June 30 to July 17, 2010).

4/2007; Invited Participant at AGU headquarters to discuss revisions to NSF’s Earth Systems History Program (ESH) after release of the 2007 IPCC report.
