Abstract of the research and teaching focus of the
Department of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation
(Faculty I, School of Education, UO)

The Department of Special Needs Education and rehabilitation hasunanimously agreed to the following subject in terms of research, teaching, programs, promotion of prospects, and service for the region:

“Educational rehabilitation for the advancement of the individuation and participation of individualswith disabilities/ handicapsor of risk and for the support of their families.”

In terms of research (and in projects of research based projects) this focus is broken down into two main directions:

  1. Concepts of educational rehabilitation for individuals and families in multi-problem situations – Individuals and Families at Risk
  1. Social rehabilitation and health promotion (e.g. care) to support the individuation and participation of individuals with disabilities/ handicaps

Focus (in research and in projects of research based classes):

(a.)Analysis of biographicalTransitionsand

(b.)Development of facilities/support for the transitional arrangement at the interfaces

Family – School – Occupation – Retirement

Differentiation of the two main research topics (under consideration of the focus “Transitions” and “Facilities for the transitional arrangement”)

  1. Educational rehabilitation concepts for individuals and families in multi-problem situations – Individuals and Families at Risk

Considering especially the analysis of barriers and resilience factors as well as the development of possibilities regarding the improvement of the participation opportunities in working life

Considering especially the analysis of barriers (e.g. Literacy) and the development of possibilities regarding the improvement of the chances of participation in the process of aging/ in an aging society)
