ABOUT THE LONDON FILM SCHOOL

The London Film School (LFS) is internationally celebrated for its commitment to film, craft excellence, innovation and creative freedom. We are recognised byCreative Skillset as a Centre of Excellence Film Academy.Currently located in Covent Garden LFS is the oldest film school in the UK. Deeply connected to local and international screen industries, we have alumni spanning the globe, and working in every part of the film industry. Our students and alumni have won every major award in the screen industries, and we continue to foster and nurture the next generation of filmmakers.

During 2016, films created at the school had around 200 festival entries, winning over 30 prizes. The list spanned Cannes, Venice, Tribeca, Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival, The BFI London Film Festival, Edinburgh, Encounters, Oscars, and Sundance.

With around 220 full-time students,from over 30 countries, we are a dynamic hub for high quality film making activity, preparing creative storytellers for the world’s screen industries. We offer 3 full-time MA programmes, a Ph.D. Film by Practice, and a full calendar of short courses.

The school is committed to collaborative practice-based learning and produces up to 180films every year. The result is a dynamic and intensive film environment which creates global networks for life.

This year the school turns 60, and with a planned move to a new home next year, is on the verge of a new chapter in its history. It’s an exciting time to join the school.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The camera department is a busy team, teaching across the two-year MA Filmmaking programme. During this time, the students undertake 5 taught film exercises: each exercise offering increasingly complex resources. All students are taught camera skills and for their exercises rotate the principal roles of Director, Producer, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Production Design, Editor and Sound. Students can undertake their graduation film in any principal role.

There are five full-time posts within the department: currently a Head of Department (HOD), two Senior Lecturers and Gaffer-stage supervisor.]:

·  Term 1 Location exterior day shoot on 16mm

·  Term 2 Location interior shoot on 16mm

·  Term 3 Documentary on Sony 200

·  Term 4 Alexa mainly in built set on studio with Fisher dolly

·  Term 5 Alexa mainly in built set on studio with Fisher dolly

·  Term 6 their graduation film

Our equipment includes 8 x Aatons, 2 x 35mm Moviecams, 2 x Alexa, 2 x Fisher dollies and related equipment.

Job Title Camera Equipment Manager

Reports to Head of Department

Purpose of Role Provide students with camera equipment for classes and shoots.

Salary £30,500 per annum, full-time

Main Responsibilities

·  issue the camera kits in good working order to students for their classes and shoots and check equipment on return

·  Administer the maintenance and repair programmes of all camera related equipment, both in-house and in liaison with external repair houses facilities.

·  Administer all related technical and administrative duties of camera related equipment: file management, camera testing, co-ordinating schedules, insurance requirements, budgeting and purchase orders.

·  Maintain a well-ordered working environment of the department with effective storage and neat presentation.

·  Supervise and instruct students on the use of equipment

·  Liaise with rental houses to order equipment.

·  Support tutors and Workshops with department related resources and suitable solutions for their requirements.

·  Ensure you maintain relevant knowledge and skills to advise the Head of Departments appropriately and can implement new technology and software.

·  Maintain relationships with leading industry professionals and companies, supporting the favourable terms for services and equipment in this craft area.

·  In liaison with Head of Department to instigate an individual program of professional development and engage with any training provision.

Additional Responsibilities

·  Keep abreast and advise the school of all current safety legislation regarding good working practice in the film and television industry.

·  Participate in relevant school board and committees.

·  Help implement effective image workflow from origination through to projection within the school.

·  Induct any department internship when and if necessary.

Person Specification

Essential

·  A friendly, outgoing approach to working with students.

·  Self motivated with strong collaboration, communication and problem solving skills.

·  Fully proficient IT skills: Mac, PC, Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use relevant software programs.

·  Aptitude for methodical, systematic organisationof equipment and administration skills.

·  Enjoy hands on practical management of equipment with an excellent eye to detail and a willingness to undertake appropriate cleaning and minor repairs of equipment

·  Demonstrate efficient time management.

Desirable

·  Experience of working with both film and digital, geared heads, dollies and related grip.

·  Experience of working in a camera rental facility and on set.

·  Applicants from any camera department grade will be considered
