About the Agency / Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

Australia and Timor-Leste work together to support the people of Timor-Leste to overcome poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth. Australia’s aid program focuses on improving livelihoods, enhancing human development and strengthening governance and institutions.

About the position

The Senior Coordinator works within the Rural Development team within the Governance and Rural Development section.

Under limited direction, the Senior Coordinator coordinatesprograms related to agriculture, food security and nutrition.

The key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate agriculture, food security and nutrition programs, in accordance with DFAT policies and procedures including contract, financial and risk management
  • Leadthe monitoring and evaluation of program implementation including through field visits, progress/financial reporting and participation in formal reviews, to promote the achievement of program outcomes
  • Provide input and advice to support program design, strategic planning and policy development
  • Build and maintain relationships with implementing partners, government counterparts and other stakeholders including representing DFAT
  • Conduct research and analysis and report on findings
  • Contribute to integrating cross-cutting issues into programs particularly gender and disability
  • Assist in preparing for missions and delegations to Timor-Leste and overseas and in coordinating regular meetings and events with counterparts
  • Lead in preparing performance and quality reports, contractor performance assessments and responses to ad hoc or regular requests such as advisor stocktakes
  • Contribute to speeches, briefings and terms of reference.

The Senior Coordinator has the opportunity to work across other programs in the Governance and Rural Development section.

Qualifications/Experience

Demonstrated qualifications,knowledge and/or experience in development practice or policy

Demonstrated experience working with Government of Timor-Leste, development partners and/or civil society

Strong written and spoken English and Tetun skills

Demonstrated qualifications, knowledge and/or experience in rural development, agriculture, food security or nutrition is desirable.
