About the 2016-2017 JAMES Sanders Gallery Fellowship

Purpose: A one-year fellowship to support one or more students interested in exhibition design, publicity, curation, and management at an art gallery through supervised applied training at the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center / Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries on the USI campus and the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, located in historic new Harmony, Indiana.

2 to 3 Fellowships may be awarded each year.

Fellowship Funding:

1.  Funding will be provided for a total of 6 credit hours of USI tuition 2016-2017 (Indiana resident tuition is $272.92 per credit; $553.96 non-resident tuition per credit hour).

2.  A stipend will be provided for round-trip transportation to New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art during the semester of training there.

Fellowship Requirements:

1.  Student will enroll in Art 399 Special Topics– Art Gallery Fellowship for 6 credit hours. The student must take all 6 credit hours in one semester or divide the Fellowship credit hours and activity hours across two consecutive semesters, (could include a summer session), based on 3 credit hours and 150 activity hours each semester.

2.  Student will train at the McCutchan Art Center / Pace Galleries one semester and the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art for one semester, with 3 credits earned at each location.

3.  Student will complete a minimum of 300 activity hours for the Fellowship.

4.  Student will complete all assignments, projects, and other activities assigned by the supervising faculty member in consultation with the on-site art professional supervisors.

Eligibility Requirements:

1.  Student must be majoring in art.

2.  Student will be junior status or above at time of Fellowship.

3.  Student must be able to complete the Fellowship prior to graduation.

Application Completion

The application is complete when all of the following are received by the Art Department Chair or Administrative Assistant, Tech 223, USI, 8600 University Blvd., Evansville, IN 47712.

1.  This completed application form.

2.  An essay focused upon the applicant’s career goals and how the Sanders Fellowship will help achieve those goals (400 words).

3.  At least one faculty recommendation (letter optional).

NOTE: Interviews will be required of the top candidates in the selection process.
